Not much around Ford counts as sacred, but the name "LAGUNA SECA" may well be sacred. There has been Mustang Mach 1’s that didn't come with V8’s, Mustang Cobras that only had 120 horsepower, and the company even sold a "GT350" during the 1984 model year that wasn't much more than an appearance package. But Ford hasn't used the name Boss 302 since last year’s 2012 and then only in 1970 when the original left production. Ford hasn't built a Boss Mustang of any sort since the 1971 Boss 351. Until, that is, in 2012 when Ford released the Mustang Boss 302 LAGUNA SECA.
In 1968, Ford's management team approved a special Mustang - a car that sacrificed nothing in its quest to be the best all-around road-going performance machine ever created by Ford. That car became the 1969 Mustang BOSS 302, and it remains one of the world's most sought-after examples of AMERICAN muscle car racing performance. Forty-three years later, Ford is doing it again with the 2013 limited production BOSS 302!
In recent years, Ford Management said the same thing it did 1968, “Because we weren't going to do the Boss if we couldn't do it right”. That meant creating an exterior that's every bit as lean and mean as its predecessor, and backing it with a 444 hp* beast under the hood.
The 2013 Mustang Boss® 302 returns with the VERY LIMITED LAGUNA SECA EDITION, and it's lean and mean, delivering more tail-kicking power than ever before. The 440 hp* beast under the hood is all business. And when you get behind the wheel, you instantly feel the interaction between power, handling, braking and suspension. Its racing pedigree can be found everywhere and registers high on the list of every automotive adrenaline junkie's must-have machines.
Its handling was built to work in unison with the 440-hp Hi-Po V8,* which means the Mustang Boss® 302 LAGUNA SECA can change its attack on a corner to the straightaway without a second’s hesitation.
This Limited Production Mustang is pre-built with a race ready package. The stiffer springs result in a slightly lower ride height (11mm in front, 1mm in back) while firmer bushings and a thicker rear sway bar further stiffen the ride. Five-way-adjustable dampers are also part of the package, along with an adjustable electric steering box.
Built around a fortified version of the Mustang GT's new 5.0-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 that can twist and shout all the way to 7,500 rpm and knock out 440 hp WITH 380 Ilb. of Torque, the revived Boss 302 LAGUNA SECA EDITION seems a more-than-worthy successor to its namesake. The outwardly re-designed 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 will be (by factory rating) the most powerful Mustang Ford has ever sold without forced induction.
Recently Ford hasn't done anything this special since the Shelby GT500 in 2007 was released. Believe it or not the BOSS 302 LAGUNA SECA is more sought after then the GT500 based on the number of inquiries I have been fielded from race enthusiast around the World.
