This pristine example was purchased by the 2nd owner from Corvette Mike with only 3k miles. It now has just over 11k and it looks, runs and drives like a brand new ZO6!

The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the best performance cars on the market today, and it continues to be a real value. Value may not be the first word that springs to mind when looking at a Corvette, but the car delivers a combination of acceleration and handling performance matched only by other high performance sports cars and various exotics. All of which are FAR more expensive, both to purchase and maintain. There's really nothing quite like the Corvette sports car in the price range.

The 2004 Corvette was the last year for the fifth generation (C5) Corvette and was available in coupe, convertible and hardtop ZO6 body styles. The base price for the coupe was $44,535, the convertible was almost $7k more at $51,535 and the ZO6 was yet another $1k at $52,385. All three body styles used the 5.7-liter V8, with the Coupe and convertible producing 350-horsepower and the ZO6 version producing 405 horsepower.

The C5 exits in grand fashion however, in the form of an optional Commemorative Edition option that celebrates Corvette's back-to-back class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Available in Coupe, Convertible ($3,700), and Z06 ($4,335) models. Colored in a special Le Mans Blue, the same hue used on the two C5-R contenders that returned to Le Mans in 2003 and narrowly missed a three-peat class win at the famed endurance race; in 2003 the Corvette C5-R came in 2nd and 3rd in their class (in 2001 and 2002 the C5-R came in 1st and 2nd in their class). Other additions include a special Shale-colored interior (Black on the Z06); the seats incorporate Corvette cross-flags embroidered into the headrests and exterior badges acknowledging Corvette's Le Mans success.

The '04 Commemorative Edition Z06 (not available in any other version) receives another 1st in class race-inspired option in the form of a lightweight carbon-fiber hood that weighs just 20.5 pounds--10.6 less than the standard unit. This hood is constructed of unique, single-direction fibers intended to eliminate waviness, a trait common on painted carbon fiber. Atop the paint are silver stripes with red edges, similar to the stripe package used as a Le Mans-only aesthetic on the C5-R race. This is the first time carbon fiber had been used for a major body panel in a mass-production vehicle and a major technology transfer from the C5-R into a production street car.

In 2004, the Z06 also received specific chassis tuning upgrades intended to deliver increased performance and more vehicle control, while still providing a smoother ride around town. Considerable attention was paid to refinement of the Sachs' shock valving in order to diminish the impact of yaw and roll, particularly in a series of tight corners. What the driver feels, is a more poised car. There is no need to wait for body roll to settle during transient maneuvers, allowing more aggressive hustling from one corner to another, particularly as they come in quick succession. Other changes include stiffer upper control-arm bushings teamed with slightly softer rear anti-roll bar bushings to deliver flatter handling and more stability going into the corner, thus minimizing oversteer on corner exit. The chassis refinements and reduced vehicle weight paid off, as the '04 Z06 joined the ranks of the select few volume-production vehicles to have broken the eight-minute barrier for lap times at the 170-turn, 14-mile-long Nuerburgring circuit in Germany. This was a worthy accomplishment, considering that the exact same vehicle can then be driven cross-country in air-conditioned comfort, backed by a factory warranty.

The 2004 model year convertible was the official pace car of the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 2004. This is not a luxury roll, yes it has its glamour’s time, but like race cars, the duties of a pace car can be long and strenuous, but unlike race cars, the pace car must work 100% of the time without failure. During two races the Corvette pace vehicles have led the field for a combined 84 laps (210 miles) of the total 400 race laps (1,000 miles) run, at an average lap speed of 75 mph. Even during green flag race conditions, the pace cars patiently run at idle, ready for action at a moment's notice with very few modifications.

The 2004 models included revised rear shock valving, new high-performance front brake pads, cast aluminum wheels and standard head-up display (HUD) for the Z06 and an option on the other body styles. As this car is a Z06, it has the HUD and is loaded with other options like Commemorative Edition emblems and wheel centers, polished wheels, 1SB package, Memory Package, auto-dimming mirrors, magnetic selective ride control and Delco/Bose CD audio.

In addition to the awesomely powerful Z06 405hp V8 engine and above options, the standard equipment includes dual front airbags, air conditioning w/dual-zone automatic climate controls, cruise control, leather upholstery, 6-way power seats, illuminated visor mirrors, antilock brakes with four-wheel discs, power steering, driver information center, outside-temperature gauge, heated power mirrors, remote keyless entry, theft-deterrent system, stainless steel exhaust, retractable headlights, daytime running lights, fog lights, Bose speakers, 6-way power seats, Z-rated tires, tire-pressure monitor, intermittent wipers, limited-slip differential, traction control with active handling and cast alloy wheels.

The 2004 Corvette Z06's LS6 V8 engine is potent. It produces 405 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration performance is amazing for a factory production car, with a 0-to-60 mph 4.8 seconds and ¼ mile time of 13.6 @ 107mph.

This car is equipped with Chevrolet's second-generation Active Handling system. This magical system gets you out of slides before trouble strikes, by applying braking to the individual corners as needed. It utilizes on-board computer and sensors to measure yaw, lateral acceleration and steering wheel position, then brings into play the capabilities of the ABS brake and traction control systems to smoothly assist the driver in maintaining vehicle control in oversteer or understeer situations. Unlike some cars with such systems that are overly aggressive in assisting before the driver wants or often needs such assistance, the Corvette systems were carefully calibrated to limit such intrusiveness. Aside from an "Active Handling" message on the instrument panel, you might not even realize you’ve been assisted. This Corvette is an absolute joy to drive, the brakes didn't fade under extreme conditions, the transmission and shifts are solid and tight. There is no question that this is an all-American, world-class GT.
