Vehicle Detail
1953 Jeep.....Willys Model MD.....Willys Overland Motors, Toledo Ohio..... Let me begin by saying that this jeep hasn't been started in 6 or 7 years... When it was parked where it now sits, it was running... How well it was running I don't really know... It was a family vehicle, that was driven by various people and owned by my late uncle... It was parked in the garage one day, and basically forgotten, and there it sits, lost in time... So...Please bear in mind, it is not running... The battery is dead, and there appears to be some old fuel still in the tank... It seems to be complete, albeit kinda beat up...I was told it looked like an M-38 A1 military jeep, but the designation tags that are riveted to the dashboard state it to be a Willys Model MD as I've stated in the listing... These tags also show this vehicle as having been manufactured in March 1953... So...There is a ton of rust, but not any serious rot... The tires are enormous, and seem to be in O.K. shape, but who knows? I don't know much about this type of vehicle mechanically, but when looking at the motor, I don't believe it has been modified or mucked around with too much, but look carefully at the photos, and you be the judge... The biggest caveat of the whole show would be, that it's tucked away in a garage, and if you want it, you'll have to tow it out... I tried to push it towards the door a bit, but was unable to budge it... So...Heave-ho........ In closing, this auction/sale goes forward AS IS/WHERE IS, with no warranties or guarantees either expressed or implied... Pick up and/or shipping is the sole responsibility of the purchaser...Remembering that it is not running, and will need to be towed out of the garage... On Mar-07-13 at 10:11:42 PST, seller added the following information: So.....The good news is, that "towing" it out of the garage will not be necessary...I was able to enlist the help of some of the neighbors, one of whom is very big, and we were able to push it very easily up to the door of the garage... Pushing it into the street for towing or trailering will be a breeze...Although a two man job, I expect.....On Mar-11-13 at 11:34:38 PDT, seller added the following information: So...I thought I'd include this comment which came from an e-bay member who was nice enough to share his observations.....The ID plate is military designation for a M38 A1. The engine even has the double grove for the second belt. There is also a by pass hose on top of water pump going into the head. The fact that you have the original vin. plate is a wow factor. You should look behind the passenger seat at the fender well and see if tag is still there. Both differentials also have vent in the hogs head cover. Notice block out on passenger side of hood. That is for a snorkel. If I wouldn't have just bought a 1951 MB38 I would have wanted this for a full Restoration. I WOULD LOVE TO NO IF AND WHAT NUMBER IS STAMPED RIGHT BEHIND THE WATER PUMP. On Mar-13-13 at 21:47:35 PDT, seller added the following information: So...I found a note in the opening page of a jeep service manual, that is in my uncle's handwritng... 1953 M38 A1 538 Gears front and rear 10 spline axles 26 tooth transfer case Also, it appears that an aftermarket electric fuel pump was installed at one point...
