Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1987 Porsche 944 in Azure Blue (Dark Blue). This car is in good running condition. Like all old cars it does have some things that need to be done.It is equipped with "telephone dial" style wheels. Additional High Resolution Pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hotpuppy/sets/72157631577480108/ 1080P High Definition Video:::About the car::::The good:It runs well.AC is very cold.3 Speed AutomaticGauges workOdometer and trip meter work (very rare for these cars)Sunroof worksPower Windows workHeadlights work What I have replaced or done:- New front wheel bearings. - New spark plug wires- New distributor cap- Replaced engine computer when I bought the car a year ago- Replaced the battery- Replaced the radio with a Pioneer CD/Bluetooth radio- Replaced the two front speakers- Replaced the muffler tail pipe (not the muffler just the tail pipe)- Reinstalled the two front bumper pads (they were missing)- Replaced the AC drain hose- Replaced the AC drier- Replaced one of the AC hoses.- Vacuumed and re-charged the AC system with R134a to the proper charge amount.- Replaced sunroof rubber seals- Replaced rear hatch rubber seal- Replaced seal around rear key- Adjusted rear hatch release (has stopped working since then - this is a known design flaw on this car)- Replaced hood emblem- Replaced power steering belt- Replaced AC/Alternator belt- Replaced tensioner for AC/Alternator- Changed oil to Mobil1 Synthetic- Replaced all 4 tires with new tires.- Replaced CV drive shafts- Replaced the fuel pump / computer relay (most common part to go out).- Replaced the intake air boot- Replaced the fuel return pressure regulator- Replaced oil filter- Replaced windshield washer fluid tank- Replaced rear windshield wiper motor, arm, and blade.- Replaced the ignition coil- Replaced relay that controls cooling fans. What needs to be done:- Remove passenger side dent in front- Reinstall piece of front spoiler or replace front spoiler. I have the piece and it is included with the car.- Touch up paint or repaint car.- re-attach driver side interior trim behind driver seat. (I'd recommend replacing speakers while you are in there)- replace drivers side sun visor (it doesn't stay up and is worn out. Currently removed)- replace front oil seals on misc shafts. These are o-rings and can be accessed during timing belt change.- replace front timing belt covers. I have one of these and it comes with the car. The other needs to be bought. Installed covers are loose and rub on the belt.- replace timing belt. No idea when it was last done, so that means it should be done. This is the one CRITICAL part on this engine. It looks to be in good condition.- troubleshoot low windshield washer pressure- there may be a minor power steering leak. Very common for these cars. Can't really tell for sure as I have only topped off the PS fluid once since I have owned the car.- Replace drivers side sunroof bracket. The bracket is included. This is needed to get the sunroof to latch closed properly. - re-secure passenger side power window switch- replace vacuum reservoir. I have the replacement part and it is included with the car.- replace the plastic trim above the heater motor. I have this part and it is included with the car.- replace the resistor for the heater. I have this part and it is included with the car.- replace the trim around the clock. I have this part and it is included with the car. What I know about the car:- Originally from Maryland. - Has sticker from US Naval Academy Annapolis on it.- Previous owner's son clipped a mailbox with the passenger side quarterpanel. This put a small dent in the fender well and broke off part of the front spoiler.- The sunroof was replaced at some point and painted to match. Paint quality on sunroof is below par, but you can't see that unless you know what you are looking for. I'm picky so I notice.- The interior carpet is okay, except in the back where it's worn. - The back seat is decorative, so I normally have it folded down.- The previous owner replaced the engine. I do not know why. I do not know what the mileage on the engine is.- When I bought the car the odometer was stopped at 87,000 miles. I don't think this is accurate. I replaced the odometer and it now reads over 110,000 miles. It is not accurate.- There is a small rust spot on the driver side behind the drivers door. - It has a keyed alarm. No key is available for it. Another 944 owner told me that this was somewhat rare.- The color Azure Blue is a standard color, but I do not believe many were made.- The original engine had a oil level sensor. The previous owner did not change the oil pan when he swapped engines. Therefore the "trouble light" is always on because the car can't see the oil level switch. - The car passes Texas inspection and emissions just fine. It is presently due for inspection and if the winner is a Texas buyer I will get the car re-inspected for you prior to sale. Note: The car no longer is required to pass emissions in Texas because of it's age. I bought this car because I had always wanted to own a Porsche 944. It is a blast to drive and lots of fun. It is not however a practical car for me. I do not have the time to tinker with it constantly. I have used the car as an alternate daily driver for a few weeks this year. The AC is cold enough that it will freeze you out in July in Houston, Texas. It is more than fast enough. There are some fluid leaks. The front of the engine seeps oil. I suspect the o-rings around the balance shaft, possibly the o-ring around the main shaft. The transmission seeps fluid from somewhere. No idea and haven't spent any time looking for it. It's so little on the transmission and engine that you can't spot it on the dipstick. I simply clean up the garage every couple of weeks. As you can see I have done a fair amount of work to the car. When I bought the car the engine computer had gotten wet. I strongly recommend keeping a 944 garaged. If the computer gets wet, you will be buying another. I had intended to restore the car. While I enjoy working on cars, the job I have now doesn't give me the time to spend on this car. The most significant issue that I feel this car has is that if you use it as a daily driver the charging system has trouble keeping up with the AC, lights, windshield wipers etc. If you leave the AC off it's fine and you can drive it every single day. Run the AC and it will eventually run the battery down. I suspect that replacing the timing belt covers and AC/alternator belt would address this with better AC belt tension. I have probably put under 3500 miles on the car in the last year. My other vehicle is a F-350 4x4 crew cab. When the weather is nasty I prefer to drive the truck. The paint is in okay condition. There are some spots in the front that have flaked. The passenger side quarter panel has a dent. The front spoiler on the passenger side needs to be reinstalled or the spoiler replaced. I have the part that came off of the spoiler. I have washed and waxed the car. It's nice enough that I regularly get compliments on it when I drive it to the grocery store, a restaurant, or anywhere else. People will pull up next to me and compliment me on my Porsche 944. I normally keep the car in my garage and leave the sunroof in the back of the car. If I get caught in the weather unexpectedly I can put the sunroof in. Otherwise I leave the sunroof out. I consider this my nice weather fun car. Living in Houston the weather isn't nice enough often enough. Okay, so I've done alot to this car, and there are a bunch of things I think need to be done. I prefer to be honest about the car. Let's face it, a 25 year old car is going to need some stuff done. I've bought and sold on ebay for over 10 years. I want the winner to be happy with the car. I would not recommend this if you do not have a garage or covered parking space for it. Water will eventually leak inside and cause you grief. It's the nature of Porsches that they are touchy about water inside. If you have questions about the car please ask before bidding. If you win the car a $200 deposit is expected within 24 hours of the auction close. The balance can be paid by cash or paypal. No checks. If you pick the vehicle up in person we will do the title paperwork at the courthouse so that you can be assured of a clean title transfer. If you are shipping the car I will work with your shipper to get the car picked up from my home. If it is necessary to mail or overnight documents this will be at your expense. If you come to pick the car up and decide you do not want it, you can cancel the purchase. A $100 cancellation charge applies. If you are local in Houston, you can contact me to make arrangements to see the car. Depending on the weather and my schedule a test drive may be possible. While I think the car is mechanically sound, I wouldn't recommend driving it long distances. I think a long distance drive would simply put wear and tear on the car. I've driven this car about 30 miles from my house at most. I have not had any real issues other than the computer/fuel pump relay. Still, it's a 25 year old car and trailering it would be better for the car. I would be fine with driving the car as far as Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Beaumont. I would not drive to New Orleans, Oklahoma City etc. I would also drive during the day, in good weather, and leave the AC off some or all of the trip to avoid any chance of running the battery down. Thanks for looking at my auction.
