This is another Corvette Mike find. After opening the first set of dealer doors in 1982, Mike has built a reputation of fair dealings and respect among the Corvette buyers and collectors. One of these collectors in Northern California owned this real 1971 LT-1 and was willing to let Mike “acquire it” for a fair price. The car was originally purchased in Portland Oregon and has only seen 58k miles since. This is not to say the car just sat though. It was started, loved, shown and maintained. During its life, it has won multiple N.C.R.S. Top Flight Awards.
The C3 body style of the Corvette is the most elegant automobile design ever. From the sleek lines of the front fenders and hood to the abrupt end that the rear deck makes, this car is classic styling defined.
The 1971 Chevrolet Corvette was changed very little from the previous 2 years, mostly this was the last year for some major things. '71 was the last year for 300+ HP performance until the return of the ZR1 in 1990. Unfortunately due to emissions and octane requirements horsepower was down every year after the 1971 for almost 20 years.
The 1971 Corvette is a perfect example of the Corvette heritage. Many of the early year problems of the C3 had been worked out. Build quality of the car was the highest it had ever been. Engine choices included the small block 350 with 270hp and 2 special options ZR1<1(like this car) with 330HP. The big block 454 option came in 365hp and 425hp flavors.
The first thing you notice when you get into this car is how low to the ground it really is. It feels like you are stepping down below the pavement when you get into the driver’s seat; you have the perception that you have just sat down inside a jet’s cockpit.
This car was built to drive. The handling is excellent and the car stays perfectly flat in turns. The power brakes are very responsive and stop the car quite well, which can be attributed to the standard 4 piston calipers at all four wheels.
