Vehicle Detail

This is a true John SILVA built MACO SHARK 2 Corvette. It is a one of a kind and is documented with a 7 page notarized description of its life from the original owner. There was a total of 105 of these built but none like this one. The owner sued Silva because he didn’t like the color that was applied. It was supposed to be root beer brown and John sprayed the root beer and then applied gold and a mist of pink pearl. Silva won the court case in Boston because he took a picture of the owner sitting in his car smiling and the judge said that he looked happy at the time! This car is the yellow one (facing the garage before custom work was done) in front of the ALVIS-X shop in the rare photo you can find on line. This car was made for the owner of a speed shop at the time and it won many car shows (ISCA show car circuit) and was driven and was used to bring in business. I had some of the trophies but they were in bad shape so they went into the trash. This car is a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette that was originally a 327/350hp 4 speed car. The car has a 1970 350 with 11:1 pistons and cam upgrade now with an automatic turbo 400 and 4.11 posi rear. This was done by the original owner. The clutch pedals are still in the car. The owner wanted an auto because he drove the car daily in the seventies. ONE OF A KIND This Mako has the Silva treatment but the main scoop is 2 inches higher and is functional, the rear wheel wells are raised 2 inches to match the front, it has 4 taillights instead of the common 2. The owner had Silva make front and back lower wheel flares (mud flaps) to keep rocks off the car. These flares are a one of a kind to this car only. This car has both front and rear bumpers (rare) and an original ALVIS back up light. The rear deck is shortened 10 inches and not made to a point because the driver was afraid the rear glass would leak and he wouldn’t be able to see behind him. It had louvers that made the care look sweet but they flew off (Flatbed driver loaded the car backwards) when it was transported to me. The fiberglass on this car is nice; it is thick and sturdy unlike the kits out there now. There is no cracking around the flares or hood that occurs with bad fiberglass work. This was done by the king (John Silva) of fiberglass work. The frame is in great shape. The car starts and drives but the brakes need attention, they work but you need to pump them. The interior needs to be restored, you are buying this car because of what it is. The front is in primer because I had the recessed scoops redone because they were rough at the drain holes. I have headlights and grill to the car as well but did not put them in because I was going to change it to round lights. The custom craze in the 70’s was square headlights and I didn’t like them. The car was repainted in the early 80s as you see it here. The owner didn’t like the color Siva painted. The cost of the conversion cost almost 10000 dollars back in 1975. Love it or hate it … this is a piece of automotive customizing history. You won’t find another one like this ever! If you worked on this car at Alvis-X or remember the car drop me line. I paid a lot for this car and prepared to take a loss but it will not be given away!! If outside of the US call before bidding. Call with questions 267 939 3698
