Vehicle Detail
1999 Saab 9-5 Sedan with 5-Speed Transmission. Approximately 111,700 miles. Blue with grey cloth interior. Very strong engine & smooth clutch & transmission! I have owned this car since 2008 and it has been very reliable as a daily driver. The 5-speed and turbo make it a very fun car to drive, and the gas mileage is great, too. I bought the car at 80,000 miles and immediately changed the oil to Mobil 1 5W-30. It has been changed regularly since, always with Mobil 1 and an OEM filter. The car has a couple performance parts, installed about 6 months ago: K&N open air intake (http://www.genuinesaab.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=47_53&products_id=311)Forge motorsports bypass valve (http://www.genuinesaab.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=37&products_id=463)I also have some service records, the most significant being from April of this year for $1100.00. The car had a bad coolant valve between the engine & heater core. The mechanic fixed a couple other problems while he was at it. The car does have some issues. They don't really affect the driveability of the car, but they can be annoying: The flex pipe between the catalytic converter and front muffler is bad. The car sounds "sporty". A replacement pipe is included with the car! (see photo)The driver's side window does not go down. It's a common problem that can be repaired with two very inexpensive rollers (P/N 4493433) and an hour or so of work. When you start the car there is a warning that says to service the alarm system. When you turn the key to start the car it says "key not accepted" for about 10-30 seconds before it will actually start. There might be an issue with the RFID chip in the key, or the reader in the car. It has never left me stranded, but should be fixed. The SID display is missing pixels. (see photos)The heated seats seemed to be on all the time, so I pulled the fuse. The hazard switch fell into the dashboard. Need to dig it out. The interior of the car can smell like crayons after being parked for a while. From research I found that the backing of the carpets in 1999-2000 9-5's start to generate this smell after a decade or so. I don't notice the smell unless I don't drive the car for a while. The A/C is a bit weak, but works. Probably needs a charge. In addition to the above annoyances, the brake pads & tires should be replaced soon. One tire did have a blowout - it's still on the rim in the trunk. A full-size spare with a snow tire is in it's place at the right rear. Also, please check out the photos to see the small dents & scratches on the car. No dents really stand out, though.
