Vehicle Detail

No Reserve, if you bid, you own it! This 1948 Mercury convertible is a driver. Partially restored, it runs and drives well. Although the paint and top are fadded, it runs well. The engine, brakes, drums, transmission, and carb have been rebuilt. The exhaust system was replaced. It has 4 new tires with painted and balanced rims. A new wiring harness was installed as well as NOS gauges, speedometer and clock, they all work oil, amp fuel, and temp. The clock has not been connected. The steering box , column, and locking key system were rebuilt. The gas tank was steam cleaned and painted. A fuel pump and filter were added just in front of the gas tank. The engine is a 1949 to 52 Mercury engine, it has the 4 inch crank shaft that is very popular to the hot rodders. I believe it has a 3.78 rear end. The engine was tested for compression and is documented at 50 to 70 lbs dry compression. I was told that is excellent numbers for a rebuilt V-8 flathead engine. I have itemized reciepts for just under $17,000 in mechanical work done by a restoration shop just to make this car a driver. I have spent about $13,000 on buying this car (30 years ago) and parts. So I have invested about $30,000 in this car. With a opening price of $13,000 and no reserve, some one will get a rare car at a great deal. Some of the included parts are shown, others are not. The extra parts include 4 Fenders. They are good used fenders. The black one has a hole the size of a quarter that needs a patch, lower left on the picture. The gray fender has a patch that is hidden under the mud flaps. The burgundy and metal fender do not look like they need any metal patches, but have a minor dent or two. There is a radio, I believe rebuilt. There is a heater. I have included the four wide stainless steel fenders trim pieces all good used or NOS. The fenders on the car have the four narrow stainless trim pieces. I have included about another 12 pieces of used Fender wide and narrow stainless pieces ( not pictured). The 2 small stainless trim pieces on the door handle line between cowl and the front fender are included. Two pieces of stainless that attach to the front fenders in front of the running boards are included. The front bumper and Four bumper gaurds are pictured and included. An extra rear gravel shield between bumper and body is included. Extra front upper grill is included to replace the broken on on the car. An extra grill surround that goes over the upper grill is pictured and included to rep[lace the dented one on the car. An extra pair of sheet metal pieces that surround the lower grills are pictured and included, one is NOS the other nice and straight but with a little rust. An extra steering wheel and a rechromed horn ring are included. The car has a turn signal lever in the steering column, a very rare original Ford accessory. the wires are not connected. I think it is actually from a 1949 mercury, but the mechanism is the same from 42 to 52 I believe with only the shape of the outer knob a bit different between the years. I believe this car is 98% complete, I don't recall missing parts, but I could have overlooked or not realized something is missing. The dashboard, window garnish and windshield trim have been correctly woodgrained, and covered with clear coat. You may wish to cover them with more layers of clear coat to get that show car gloss. The dashboard plastic is in great condition, very rare to find it so. The orginal upholstery, red and cloth is present but is tattered in places. There are seat covers (Black and white ) that cover the original red and cloth seats, not sure how much of the orginal red and cloth is under the new covers, but you can see the red edges of the original under the seat covers. The front passenger window is cracked, all side glass is present, I recall the rear windows need a little help to roll up. The top has an automatic hydraulic opener, I have never tried it. The floors are good and solid, there were patches in front of the drivers seat. There is a hole in the trunk, passenger side that is pictured, the drivers side trunk has no holes as pictured. The frame is solid but was not repainted. I would expect the rear quater panels would need patches. I had the four shocks removed, to restore them, I never got to them, but they are included, but not pictured. There is an original top boot cover and spare tire with repainted rim in the trunk . I have about 40 pictures, send me your email for additional pictures. Feel free to call me about this car, it is hard to mention all facts about a car I have had 30 plus years( 262-238-9868). I have put less than 50 miles on the car since the engine rebuild and all the mechanial work, but have started the engine usualy once every three or four month to keep it from getting stuck. The engine blows a little white smoke when you first start it, then the exhaust runs clear, as is commen for a good flathead V-8 Bid with confidence, I have bought and sold over 2000 items over many years on Ebay and have a 100% positive feedback because I honestly describe my items! again feel free to call for additional details. 262-238-9868 If you don't have a Paypal account but wish to bid, email me and we will work out a down payment. I will sell Internationally, but will only accept a cashiers check for exact amount of purchase FROM a US BANK, and will not arrange any third party transportation or money transfers. (scammers, don't bother me please.) Car will not be released until I have verified the check as cleared. Transportation will need to be arranged by buyer, however, I travel often and if prepaid,I may be able to delivery for less than a transport company. Last summer I found the car was running poorly at over 25 mph. I found the culprit was a partially clogged fuel line. I believe years ago when the gas tank was steam cleaned, it was coated in the inside with a sealer that has started to deteriorate. After blowing out the line and installing a fuel pump and a filter it ran fine the until recently. Blowing the line and cleaning the filter had it running fine again, until this am. I will clean it again, but I think a new tank is in order, Bob Drake makes a good on for about $250.00
