Description This car was bought for a farmer's wife who did not drive. The idea was to get her driving. Apparently the idea didn't stick, and the car went into a barn at 28k. I bought it in 2006 from relatives, and have had it since. I am a marque specialist in Imperial and have a small collection of them. I was drawn to the car because it is the most complete, clean, original Imperial that I've ever owned. The interior, and most especially the non-UV stable plastic in the steering wheel are original and in superior condition. The steering wheels on these cars are quick to craze and degrade, so finding a translucent one in good shape is unusual. Seats have cloth with an irridescent thread woven through the material that is simply going to be impossible to replace as far as I know, and the seats have no rips or tears - they're still almost good as new. Dash chrome is clean and looks new, same with the instruments, headliner, and package shelf. Dash pad has had some shrinkage, which is common to these cars. Removing the phillips-head trim at the bottom of the windscreen should allow access for gluing it down to keep it flat. The car features original paint on a very straight body. There is zero cancer, rust, rot, or anything else bad about the sheetmetal besides one small ding in the DS front corner, and another small blemish on the PS rear outside of the decklid - see the photos. When the car was pulled from storage in the barn, there were apparently some sprinkler pipes that disloged and fell on it. These caused scratches in the paint on the trailing edge of the roof, and a few more on the top of the trunk. These scratches have been filled with touchup paint and are not getting worse - same as when I got the car. I had planned to use a dremel tool with a wire wheel to clean the touchup paint out of the scratches so that I could fill them with light body filler and then use an airbrush to mask the filler. I am certain that this would make the car's paint quite passable and not require a respray. I prefer original paint on a car, but if you prefer perfection, this car's metal is the perfect canvas for a respray, since there is essentially no body work required. The car's suspension is top-rate and it handles as I imagine a new one would, with no looseness in the front end and very positive brakes. When the brakes are applied, the car does not wander - everything is correct about it's ride and control characteristics. Chrome plating is brilliant and there is no replating required anywhere on the car. Rear bumper has a single ding in it, and a straight, unrusted spare bumper is included in the price - you'd want to replate just the lower portion to make it perfect. Non-working items: Clock not working. Clean contacts and it should. Spare included. Carburetor accelerator pump not working correctly. Replace the leather skirt in the AFB Carb or have it rebuilt. I can have it rebuilt locally (for the cost of doing so at my regular guy) prior to pickup if you would like. Air Conditioning system is complete but has had the compressor replaced. Compressor should be checked for oil and then the system vacuum checked. Original compressor siezed when the AC button was pressed in error while driving - low on oil, I think. Engine will burn a light amount of oil over time, so should be checked periodically. It does not smoke or do anything offensive or worth worrying about. I presume that it is the valve stem seals, and only noticed it when I was driving it regularly and checked the oil from time to time - not a problem unless you don't like checking oil (in which case you ought to get a new car). When running, the engine is glassy smooth, so I see no indication of uneven compression or other wear that would indicate an internal problem. I'd run the car as it is and not worry - just check the oil every other fillup or on long trips. The rear tires are worn and should be replaced. Fronts are OK now, but not far behind, so a full set may be a good idea. Car came with Bias Ply tires originally, and one drive on the current tires will convince you how creamy and smooth the car can be if you stick with them and don't go to the harsher-riding radials that are available. Dash lights do not light up. Have not looked at this. Perhaps a fuse or something simple? Unknown cause. Car was driven 600 miles through Yosemite in 2007 without problems, and was delightful to drive. The auto-pilot works correctly and it's a breeze to drive this car around town and on the open road. This is a great previously owned vehicle. I help run the Online Imperial Club at imperialclub.com and have an XL Spreadsheet showing every 1964 Imperial sold on ebay in the last 5 years, including mileage, condition, final sale price, date, color, and more if you would like to see why I have priced the car as I have - I feel that this is a very good car that's immediately drivable and an easy restoration if you demand perfection. You will never get a shaggier car into this condition without significant additional expense. I have a rebuilt 1964 Chrysler Imperial engine that is identical to this car's engine available for additional cost if you are interested. Car includes spare used bumper and spare instrument cluster in the auction price. This car was bought for a farmer's wife who did not drive.

Non-working items:

  1. Clock not working. Clean contacts and it should. Spare included.
  2. Carburetor accelerator pump not working correctly. Replace the leather skirt in the AFB Carb or have it rebuilt. I can have it rebuilt locally (for the cost of doing so at my regular guy) prior to pickup if you would like.
  3. Air Conditioning system is complete but has had the compressor replaced. Compressor should be checked for oil and then the system vacuum checked. Original compressor siezed when the AC button was pressed in error while driving - low on oil, I think.
  4. Engine will burn a light amount of oil. I presume that it is the valve stem seals. When running, the engine is glassy smooth, so I see no indication of uneven compression or other wear that would indicate an internal problem. I'd run the car as it is and not worry - just check the oil every other fillup or on long trips.

Car was driven 600 miles through Yosemite in 2007 without problems, and was delightful to drive. The auto-pilot works correctly and it's a breeze to drive this car around town and on the open road. This is a great previously owned vehicle.
