Contact Seller See our other listings Print this listing 1967 Crown 4D HT Original CA Black Plate Car Photos I am listing this car for a fellow Imperial Mailing List and Imperial Owners' Club Member and have inspected the car. Here is what I have found: This is a (relatively) low mileage, original car with original paint. Everything else, including interior "gold dust" leather seating is original, except the vinyl roof, which was redone in factory-correct material 2 years ago, always stored inside since, with only 500 miles put on the car since then. The car has been thoroughly sorted and drives nicely with no problems to mention. The following work has recently been performed (in the last 3500 miles): ====================== 1. New shocks (4) 2. New Tires (4) 3. New Brakes - all - Master Cylinder, wheel cylinders, rebuilt (hard to find) calipers, shoes and pads. 4. New Radiator / flushed system 5. New hoses and belts - all 6. Power steering box rebuilt + alignment 7. New solid state regulator 8. Solid state Pertronix ignition Almost everything works, including antenna, AC (needs a charge, which will last you about a year), radio, all windows & window controls, horn. What does not work: ====================== Cruise control, clock What is good about the car: ====================== 1. Original paint with very few blemishes. 2. Oringinal interior - leather is superior with 2 blems shown in photos 3. Headliner, dash, instrumentation, trim, interior chrome is superior. 4. Exterior chrome is original and about as nice as you'll find. The exterior mirrors have the most minor freckling in the plating. Not perfect, but a far way from needing replating, and only notable when you are within 24 inches and staring directly at them - they're very passable otherwise, with good silvering. 5. The camera LIES. It is not showing some of the minor stone chips and door-ding-caused chips (chips! not dents) in the paint. They have been skillfully covered with touchup paint and the creamy color of the paint conspires to make them disappear to the eye of my otherwise high quality camera. I tried to photo the car as if you were there with me and walking around it, but the human eyeball is a marvelous contraption in comparison to this online mumbo-jumbo that we're doing here. Please expect some very light wear and tear commensurate with partying on the road for 97,000 miles, keeping in mind that it was tea and crumpets on the patio, not a drunken kegger with a garage band. Car is what you might expect to find at a used car dealership in 1978 - good, used condition. Not smoked in - supposedly the original owner was a school teacher in Lafayette, Ca. Second owner had to decide between it and a Dodge Charger, so the car went to the current owner, who also owns a 1968. Current owner has lost storage for the car - it has always been indoors, and he does not want the car's condition to deteriorate outside. Said that he got into it today after 2 months of sitting and that it fired right up and is always dependable. What's not right: ================== 1. Please note dings at lower rear of PS quarter and at top, 3/4 rear of DS front fender. 2. Please note that the rear seat seam is seperating - visible through rear window. An enterprising person might be able to close that up with a needle and thread without even removing the seat back? 3. The front seat has a 2.5" seperation in the leather at the seam - see photo with me pointing to it. 4. There is the lightest, smallest exhaust leak audible when the car is cold. The exhaust manifold might need tightening, the manifold-to-pipe connection might have something going on? Not difficult to fix, and honestly the sound is so minor that I'd drive the car as-is after snugging down the exhaust manifold nuts, but it is there. 5. If the car sits for more than 2 months without being driven, it is reluctant to shift down into first gear when you come to a stop. This can be overcome by shifting down into first gear manually. Driving the car a bit makes this go away. There is a seal or something in the transmission that would appear to be reluctant here. With any sort of regular use, this is a non-issue, and the 727 aluminum torqueflights supplied with these cars are known to be bullet-proof and a good design that was never recalled and survived until just recently (in modified form, but with similar basic architecture) in the Dodge Truck line. We feel that the transmission is not worn out or a problem, but with any car of this age there are bound to be some personality traits present. A transmission shop that has someone with gray hair working there can rebuild such a transmission to operate perfectly without problem, and this is one of the least expensive transmissions to rebuild that I'm aware of, should it come to that - it WILL need to be rebuilt at some point in the future of the universe, after all. Otherwise shifts fine with clear fluid and no smell of burnt clutch in the fluid or anything ominous to indicate pending repair expenses. What does the car feel like to drive? If you have not driven an imperial before, you should know that the car has torsion bar suspension that makes it feel about 2 feet shorter than it really has a right to. The car is, for a large car, quite snappy and easy to drive in traffic or out on the open road. Brakes are easily some of the best ever fitted to a large car - 4 piston, Budd Calipers on large disc brakes up front feel like a modern car when you apply the brakes, and will stop the car very aggressively - this is no barge, and is the best engineering that Chrysler (a company known for good engineering) had to offer this year. The car has an owner-modification which is staggerd turn signals, meaning that they fire sequentially rather than with all three on one side at the same time. Stepping on the brake also yeilds a fast, sequential illumination which I think looks really super, but which can be bypassed by the next owner if desired. Once you see it, I'm pretty sure that you'll agree that it's a super-cool addition that nobody is likely to call you on regarding originality - easy to return to stock if desired. On the road, the 440 engine starts from a very smooth, quiet idle and is capable of pulling the car firmly up to freeway (or higher) speeds in complete isolation from road noise or even noise from the mechanical operation of the engine and transmission. Brakes are firm and this is probably pretty close to the experience that the first owner got right off the lot. The car is super clean, super straight, and must apologize for nothing. Some people might spend $10k to restore a car, but this one is original, clean, and sharp. No need to do anything but maintenance and an occasional wax job. Please have a gas station credit card with a high limit - sitting next to a fuel pump is the car's natural habitat at 12mpg, but keep in mind that this will be regardless of how many overweight american people you have inside of it - the car just goes and goes. Please feel free to call Ken at 510-886-5934 during daylight PST hours. The auction has my number down at the bottom - I'll simply refer you to him, since he's the owner. He's my buddy and I know him well enough to vouch that not only is he an honest person, he's also mechanically qualified to know whether this is a good car or not - it is. Frequently sellers with no idea about how a car works will sell a car as "very good" Ken has actually been through the car, sorted it, driven it on club events, and is mechanically capable of dealing with almost anything that came up. Last note: over the years, I've listed and sold about 35 Imperials for aquaintances and to cover the expenses of my own restoration hobby. I've met a few people with stars in their eyes who wanted to fly out and drive a car home. I've always gone out of my way to offer an iron-clad guarantee on any car I sell that the car is personally covered by me out to the stop sign on the corner of my short cul-de-sac (see photos). Driving a vintage car that you don't know long distance is completely nuts - they're filled with all sorts of parts that freak out and fail when first used regularly after long periods of sitting. My 1955, with rebuilt driveline, brakes, paint, chrome, & interior was essentially a new car, and the guy came down and drove it back to Canada without a problem. That was the only other car I've ever sold where I allowed that it would be possible and didn't warn the buyer that they were rolling figurative dice. This is the second such car I've ever sold. I still think that people are cry-babies who want to blame others for the universe being what it is, and yes, you can curse my mother out loud if it breaks down in Lincoln Nebraska on the way home, but I'd be surprised if it did, and so would go so far as to suggest that anyone with a tow card and bus fare and a high tolerance for risk could fly out from anyplace on the continent and drive back with every confidence that this car "should" make it back. The parts are common enough and I have connections to get them fast for you if needed, and the skill needed to install most of the likely suspects can be found roadside in most places. The usual guarantee out to the stop sign on my street applies here, but frankly, I think that this car is good for a trip to New York, and I just wouldn't say it here if I didn't think it was true. Your mileage may vary. Caveat Emptor and all that, but this is a solid car, and I'm convinced that both the opening bid and the BIN prices are low. Seller is motivated (but not willing to accept less than opening bid - it would make a nice daily driver at that price). -Kenyon Wills Warranty Information AS IS - NO WARRANTY This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. I am listing this car for a fellow Imperial Mailing List and Imperial Owners' Club Member and have inspected the car. Here is what I have found:

This is a (relatively) low mileage, original car with original paint. Everything else, including interior "gold dust" leather seating is original, except the vinyl roof, which was redone in factory-correct material 2 years ago, always stored inside since, with only 500 miles put on the car since then.

The car has been thoroughly sorted and drives nicely with no problems to mention.

The following work has recently been performed (in the last 3500 miles):

======================

1. New shocks (4)

2. New Tires (4)

3. New Brakes - all - Master Cylinder, wheel cylinders, rebuilt (hard to find) calipers, shoes and pads.

4. New Radiator / flushed system

5. New hoses and belts - all

6. Power steering box rebuilt + alignment

7. New solid state regulator

8. Solid state Pertronix ignition

Almost everything works, including antenna, AC (needs a charge, which will last you about a year), radio, all windows & window controls, horn.

What does not work:

======================

Cruise control, clock

What is good about the car:

======================

1. Original paint with very few blemishes.

2. Oringinal interior - leather is superior with 2 blems shown in photos

What's not right:

==================

What does the car feel like to drive?

If you have not driven an imperial before, you should know that the car has torsion bar suspension that makes it feel about 2 feet shorter than it really has a right to. The car is, for a large car, quite snappy and easy to drive in traffic or out on the open road. Brakes are easily some of the best ever fitted to a large car - 4 piston, Budd Calipers feel like a modern car when you hit the brakes.

It is up to the buyer to come see and further inspect the car before the end of the auction.--> On Jan-03-11 at 14:35:27 PST, seller added the following information: Additional notes on the car: Ken held back on me, and there is additional (good) news on this car. 1. The entire front-end was recently rebuilt (in the last 3000 miles) and is tight as can be. This is one thing that gets overlooked on these cars, and having it done will make the car handle and steer much more precisely. That's a $1000 job if done locally here at a shop. That would include ball joints(4), upper/lower control arm bushings, strut rod bushings, & sway bar bushings. He's not here with me right now, so I'm going from what he said - you can call him to confirm this before you bid if you'd like. 2. The front discs are new. They were briefly reproduced and he snagged a pair for each of his car - they went on when the rest of the brake job was done. 3. The turn signal switch IS new, and in fact it was Ken who literally wrote the book on it at the Online Imperial Club when he did the project on this car - you can see it being installed here: www.imperialclub.org /yr/1967TurnSignal/index.htm Please copy and paste this into your browser and then remove the spaces. Ebay dislikes direct links in auctions, so I inserted some spaces to make it inoperative. On Jan-04-11 at 07:52:56 PST, seller added the following information: so sorry - please try: www. imperialclub.org /Yr/1967/67TurnSignal/index.htm
