Vehicle Detail
1983 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER FJ60 4X4 4 DOOR WAGON:Super clean rust free classic FJ60 runs & drives as good as it looks. Comes with clean Arizona title and thousands of dollars in receipts for valuable new parts & labor documenting rebuilt 2F (4.2L) engine with profesionally installed 5 inch Spring Over Axle lift on 33" Mud Terrain Radial tires mounted & balanced on 15 x 10 aluminum rims. HISTORY:This amazing FJ60 was originally born in 1982 in a factory in Honsha, Japan. It was shipped on a freighter to Long Beach, CA where it was designated to a Southern, Arizona Dealership where the climate is so dry nothing rusts. To this day if you were to scrape all the rust off this vehicle, including the exhaust pipes, you wouldn't even get an ounce of dust.MECHANICALS:Smooth & strong running professionally rebuilt 2F engine comes with receipts. 1k miles ago this 2F got a freshly refurbished cylinder head with newly ground valves, new rod and main bearings, new carburetor, new belts, new plugs, wires, cap & rotor, rebuilt power steering gear box, refurbished smog pump, refurbished power brake booster, refurbished radiator plus a new AC compressor converted to modern 134A freon. That alone was about $3k in parts and $3k in labor. Engine is mated to the factory rugged Aisin 4 speed transmission and factory 2 speed transfer case which still function like new. All the brakes, suspension, cases and drivelines have been gone through with new parts where worn. It drives down the road tight & smooth with no rattles, no steering wander or suspension slop, which is typical of any box framed Toyota since they used fine thread machine fasteners for everything including the wiper arms. Why are fine thread fasteners for the body superior to all the course thread hardware that Americans used on their vehicles (except for the engines and transmissions)? Because fine threads means more surface area making more contact and costing more to build but staying tighter longer.2F INLINE STRAIGHT 6:Legendarily reliable rebuilt 2F engine runs like an industrial sewing machine. Starts every time with a click of key when warm. When cold it takes a minute to warm up like most carbureted vehicles. Always passes emissions because it has an OE spec catalytic converter and OE spec smog pump. Comes with the PASSED Arizona emissions/inspection slip completed on 7/21/18. It's quiet because there's a brand new muffler. 2F HISTORY:The F series was the longest production run ever for any Toyota engine, made from 1955 until 1992 using the reliable OHV inline-6-cylinder design developed from Chevrolet's famous "Stove Bolt" 235 CID work horse. They are known for high reliability and were loved for their high torque at low RPM. They incorporate overhead valves actuated by pushrods from a gear driven camshaft in the bottom end. They were licensed by GM for Toyota although most of the bottom end parts were not shared.H42F 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION:Shifts smooth and concise as designed with normal quiet clutch throw. These 4 speed transmissions were among the most rugged Toyota ever built. The gear oil is fresh. TRANSFER CASE:The factory 2 speed transfer case is gear driven, extremely durable and full of fresh gear oil. It engages smoothly so the 4x4 actuation works as designed once you engage the factory Aisin manual lockout hubs. FRAME & BODY: Frame & body has zero rust. Virtually every American 4x4 made during this era used weak C channel frames that flexed and cracked. By contrast Toyota built only fully boxed steel truck frames designed not to flex or crack. The body is 100% rust free and remarkably straight for a 35 year old vehicle, although the passenger front fender has a blemish at the wheel lip and near the corner light plus the passenger rear quarter panel has a small shopping cart ding behind the tire. The paint is mostly original and shows its age close up. It's had some touch ups here and there and at some point the windshield frame and hood were repainted. Hood shows some some chips, flaking and spider cracks in the driver side front corner. The spare is stowed in the factory location under the rear of the truck. It needs replaced as it's old plus a smaller diameter. The factory jack and tools are missing but are easily replaceable on ebay because they are more or less the same from any Toyota 4x4. I would recommend a Hi-Lift jack for this vehicle. BUMPERS AND ROCK SKI STEP RAILS:The front sports a custom tube bumper with a pair of clevis shackle mounts and an LED light bar. The rear is the factory bumper. There's a frame mounted receiver hitch with a removable clevis shackle insert for recoveries. Each side has a rock ski step rail mounted to the frame to protect the rocker panels and assist stepping in and out. S.O.A. SPRING OVER AXLE SUSPENSION LIFT, WHEELS & TIRES: Professionally installed S.O.A. spring over axle lift provides 5 inches of lift with no gimmicks, no blocks and no arched springs. Precisely because the springs are stock the ride is plush. New bilstein shocks all the way around. The 4 Firestone Mud Terrain Radials have plenty of tread. They are mounted and balanced on 15x10 aluminum American Racing wheels. 10 inch wide rims means the vehicle sits exactly 4 inches wider than stock which is precisely what you need when you have a 5" lift on 33 inch tires because the taller you go the wider you need to be to compensate for the altered center of gravity. This truck can easily accommodate 35 inch tires as it sits and with lift springs the stock axles are strong enough to run 40" tires. You cannot accomplish that feat without starting with the S.O.A. lift which costs at least $2k from any competent shop.DIFFERENTIALS:Both factory 9.5" differentials are stock with 4.10 gear ratio, open carriers and full of fresh gear oil. If you wanted to wheel hardcore you can install e-lockers from FJ80's as well as lots of other options.INTERIOR:Interior is immaculate with no rips or tears or stains on the fabric or carpet. All the lights, signals and gauges work as designed. The one picture of the gauges in operation was taken while driving in 3rd gear just before shifting into 4th. The air blows cold and the heat blows hot. There's a nice Sony sound system with 4 speakers. A switch on the dash operates the LED light bar on the bumper. The only interior blemish is the dash pad which has significant cracking from sun & heat shown clearly in the picture of the steering wheel. New owner can either restore dash or get a dash carpet cover or just leave it be.PAPERWORK:Comes with a notarized AZ title, a fresh passed AZ emissions/inspection slip, engine rebuild receipts, plus an Experian Carfax Report showing no accidents, no thefts, no flood damage nor hidden problems of any kind. INVESTMENT: Because of their exceptional engineering and reliability Land Cruisers typically go up in value every year even while you drive them, providing one of the best investments in the automotive world today, bar none. Fact is there will never be another made like them. They're 1 off legends, as important as American Muscle cars, and are getting exceptionally hard to find in this condition. Near the bottom I link a bunch of similar Land Cruisers for comparison. Clearly they are going up in value and this one is arguably the bargain of a lifetime. OH WHAT A FEELING: There's many reasons Toyota trucks are so legendary worldwide. It's no accident that no matter what part of the world you look at whenever you see news footage of guerrilla fighter soldiers with AK47s in the back of a pickup it's always a Toyota. Just find a counter-example? That's because Toyota truck reliability is 2nd to none. It's what soldiers count on. That's why Toyota is the only import vehicle ever allowed to compete in NASCAR racing. CONTACT:Email or Call 52O-Nine 77-O112 for any questions. FEEDBACK:If you have ZERO feedback and are serious about this truck then before doing anything please be sure to call the number above so we can establish that you're not a squirrel. It won't take more than a couple minutes so please just do it or your offer will be cancelled. Unfortunately this is required due to the notorious reputation of eBay rookies for being impulsive non-paying bidders. BUYER NOTE:For those new to eBay or nervous about buying a vehicle over the internet, that's understandable, but think about this for a moment. I've been selling vintage 4x4's along with vintage parts on eBay for 18 years. Some 15 years ago I happened to sell a vintage Early Bronco to an eBay seller who runs a large scale pawn shop in Philadelphia with tens of thousands of feedbacks and he taught me this important eBay rule of thumb. Every positive feedback is worth about a dollar of trust. That means if you're buying something, say a special vintage carburetor for $300, then ideally the seller will have at least 300 positive feedbacks. This is just an ideal rule of thumb mind you. It's not etched in stone but rather a simple guideline or compass for action. So if there's somebody's selling a $12,000 vehicle with only 32 feedbacks I'd be leery. Doesn't mean it's not legit, it's just that there's not much track record. By contrast if a seller's asking $12k for a vehicle and has more than 12k positive feedbacks like myself, well then you can rest easier for you can ask yourself why would they risk throwing away their whole business model, their decades old hard earned feedback reputation for only $12k? The answer is they wouldn't. IMPORTANT AUCTION TERMS SO PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:As noted from the outset, per the eBay "Terms of Service" (TOS) that you agreed to when registering your OFFER, should it be accepted, "constitutes a legally binding contract for sale" so please don't start clicking if you're not committed to buy with funds in place and wife's permission. Please also make sure the phone number and address you have registered with eBay is current and if you're planning to use PayPal for the deposit that you have liquid funds ready to go that are not in the form of an E-Check which takes 5 or more days to clear, in other words, be a responsible bidder whose got their act together and doesn't have a bunch of excuses. Inspection prior to bidding is welcome as vintage vehicles are always sold AS IS with no warranty expressed or implied. PAYMENT TERMS:A non-refundable deposit of $1000 either via online PayPal payment or card over phone through Square is due within 24 hours of auction close. Full balance of Payment is due within 72 hours of auction close by either direct bank to bank wire transfer, or you can overnight envelope a Cashiers Check, or pay cash in person. PayPal for the full balance is not an option, however a credit or debit card payment through Square.com is, so long as buyer is willing to pay the 3% fees. SHIPPING:All shipping arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer however we will always help your shipper coordinate the loading to the best of our ability. It all begins by calling the number above. Figure shipping any vehicle East of the Mississippi is about a grand. West is less. We will store the vehicle free for 21 days after sale. There is a $15 per day storage fee thereafter unless other arrangements are pre-dickered. Note that many naive eBayers imagine that they'll jump on a plane to Tucson, pay in cash in person, and drive the truck home. In most cases that's wrong. Not because the truck will have issues but rather because you won't get cheap airfare to Tucson, you won't have legal plates driving home, you won't have a 33" spare and a jack, and the overall trip costs plus gas is way more than you think.
