Up for auction today is a 1981 VW Caddy pickup with a new 1.9 high output turbo diesel engine. I got the truck from the original owner who started a 1.9 swap and didn’t finish. The engine long block was bought for $4000 new from VW. It came with a full turbo system and injection pump from a 1997 aaz with 60k miles. The transmission was also rebuilt at a cost of $1000 to take the added power of the new engine. The new parts that have gone into this truck are well over $7000 alone (not including the truck). I do not know the reason for all the new parts since the truck only has 117000 on it. The cluster is original and looks to have nver been out. Over all the truck is in amazing condition for its age (117000 original miles). The paint looks good with only minor dings and scratches here and there. The truck has no rust on it I can see and I have looked. The interior looks near perfect with no cracks in the dash and the carpet and headliner look almost new. Seats look good with very minor staining do to age, but no holes. All windows, locks, latches work perfect. All door window rubber is in perfect condition, no cracks, sun damage, it looks amazing. All the electrical and mechanical on the truck works perfect as well. The diesel 5 speed transmission was rebuilt to make sure it could take the power of the bigger 1.9 turbo engine. The cv shafts, and power steering rack are also new. 45 MPG all day. The list goes on and on. I will start by listing the good and the few bad things about the truck. Good. 1. New 1.9 turbo diesel long block. 2. New water pump, and housing. 3. New timing belt and tensioner. 4. New clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate. 5. Fully rebuilt diesel 5 speed transmission. 6. New left and right CV shafts. 7. New altinator. 8. New radiator and hoses. 9. New 2.5” exhaust from turbo back. 10. New power steering rack. 11. New Front brakes. 12. New battery. 13. New Motor mounts. 14. New spay in bead liner. 15. Tires look to have 80% life left. 16. Rear wheel bearings checked and repacked. 17. Fuel tank cleaned and checked for leaks. 18. Comes with a very nice white Gem Top canopy. 19. Has original owner’s manual. 20. Runs and drives perfect, 45 mpg all day. 21. Stock AM FM radio, works. 22. Nice rear Bumper. Not so good. 1. Very light scratches and dings here and there. 2. Dents on lower front valance. Hard to see. 3. Tail light are a little faded, but not cracked. 4. Windshield has small chip but not cracked. 5. NO A/C Over all I give this truck a 8+ out of 10 for looks and a 10 out of 10 for mechanical 10 being new. I have done my best to give an honest accurate accounting of this truck. Thank you.On Jun-15-15 at 10:58:11 PDT, seller added the following information: The other day after my 1000 mile drive I noticed a small amount oil on the down pipe flange of the turbo so I checked the turbo and saw it had a very slow leak(not leaking bad, but I do not want to take a chance of it getting worst). I ordered a new VW OEM KKK k03 turbo from Bora Parts at a price of $750, so the truck has a new turbo on it. I had to make sure the truck is in the best running condition posable. Thank you.
