Vehicle Detail
1959 Cadillac Sedan Deville Barbecue Grill Trailer.Car was purchased new in February 1959 from the Cadillac dealer in Detroit, Michigan. After 1799 miles on a ice covered I-75, it slid off the highway and hit the concrete base of a overpass. The Cadillac was totaled beyond repair from front end damage. The owner kept the car for 9 years then traded it to a carpenter in exchange for work. The carpenter kept the car for 28 years then died, in a car accident. The carpenters wife then sold the car to a neighbor who converted it into what you see now. Many years later my late husband was invited to a party in which the car was present and used for grilling italian sausage. He some how bought it and now I'm passing it on to the next owner / High Bidder / No Reserve !!! It's all original, it has been repainted and the paint is in excellent condition. The chrome is original and has never been replated, it does have some pitting and fading but is dent free. It does have a spare tire but no jack. It uses a 2" ball and flat 4 wire harness. I do have a assembled trailer title / registration for it. Buyer is responsible for pick up or shipping. Payment due in full 7 days after auctions end. I can store it until June 30th if needed. On May-10-15 at 06:23:45 PDT, seller added the following information: The car is all original underneath, rear end, suspension, wheels and the gas tank was removed. One of the bullet shaped fin lenses, driver side, is broken. I have 2 replacement lenses but these replacement lenses are not original, aftermarket. The tires are in good condition, I do not think they are original, the spare tire is in good condition and looks to be original but has a smaller size whitewall stripe. We have pulled the trailer with a Lincoln MKX and it has always trailered perfectly. The trailers tongue is large and solid metal to help balance the trailer so it doesn't tail wage like you'd think. The storage compartment doors in the front hold all your gear, charcoal, utensils and was originally made to hold 2 - 20lbs tanks of propane. The grill to my knowledge has never been equipped with propane burners, it has always used charcoal. The hood ornament on the front, above the storage doors, is not 1959 vintage but an earlier year. The Cadillac emblem below the hood ornament, on the tongue in front of the doors, is also not 1959 but from a earlier year Cadillac. The ledge in front of the storage doors is molded fiberglass and the builder did a very good job. There are no cracks in the fiberglass work. The grill can easily be removed from the trunk and used as storage as a trunk would normally be used for. We used the Cadillac Grill primarily for tailgating at football games. It has been to the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboy games. The grill has had 320 chicken wings on it at one time. The grate size is 48" wide and 36" deep. There has been some pictures on a website called Flickr showing the Cadillac Grill at a sporting event surrounded by the Hooters girls. A great vintage piece of automobile history and would look great being towed by a 1959 Cadillac !!!
