Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a fully optioned production year 1980 Porsche 924s Turbo (or 931) with the additional factory option M471 "S" Sport Group Package. Factory original options include: limited-slip differential, leather upholstery, air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, fog lights, headlight washers, rear window wiper, factory alarm system, and "G31" five-speed manual w/ dogleg first gear. The additional M471 "S" package includes: four-wheel internally ventilated disc brakes on five-bolt hubs, mounting forged 16 x 6-inch 928-style alloys, upgraded springs and shocks, front and rear anti-roll bars and a different steering ratio complete with a leather-wrapped 911SC steering wheel. The vehicle starts, idles, and runs out nicely free from smoke, while the steering is tight and braking is straight and responsive. No issues of overheating; running full synthetic Mobil 1 15w-50 in the front, synthetic in the rear, and steady oil pressure. A preventative/seasonal maintenance tune-up was completed recently prior to summer. Neither issues of corrosive rust nor rot are evident on the body or frame with factory undercoating complete and intact. The subtle cosmetic changes completed will be quickly identified by those who know this model. However, all changes were merely cosmetic insuring the integrity of the vehicle not be compromised, and can quickly and easily be reversed to factory stock if desired. Among others, I chose to swap the carpet and "racquet handle" shifter on the console with a leather pad and reconfigured shifter, complete w/ custom bushings. Gear shifts are crisp, and since I do not speed shift or abuse any of my vehicles, I have not had problems with 1st and 2nd gear grinds. The windshield and all glass is clear with no cracks/stars and the matching plus size 225 50R16 tire set shows 70+% tread life remaining. Headlight washers and fog lights have been removed, but system and wiring is still in place. Gauges, dials, warning lights and exterior lights all function properly (including the rear wiper and factory alarm) with the exception of the A/C (which I have made no effort to diagnose). The interior fan will cut out and return on occasion, which is believed to be a loose connection at the fuse box, but wiring is not my forte. I recently noticed (but will not get to prior to the auction closing) the seemingly "sticky" wastegate. When following the factory recommendation in the owners manual; "... At least once every time the car is driven, with the engine at operating temperature, accelerate at full throttle from a standstill up to 5500 rpm in first gear. This will cause the wastegate to open and blow out any accumulated condensation. Condensation from the exhaust which accumulates in the wastegate can cause sticking and can also lead to premature corrosion of this component ..." When the vehicle has been sitting, and until I do what is recommended in the manual, the car seems to hesitate as it climbs the rpm's. But after completing this recommendation, the system runs smoothly as intended and pulls up the rpm's. Although there are one or two well chronicled replacement wastegate's available, and several articles on the refresh process, I wanted to keep the car mechanically original. So a removal/refresh of the part was my intention. Overall, simply a striking example of a late 70's / early 80's era sports car with charm and period good looks which will bring the new owner years of proud ownership. You will find very few 931's currently enjoying the road, and even fewer still in this condition with the full list of factory options. This vehicle is fun to drive and deserves to be driven more, and responds favorably the more often it does. I am not a Porsche aficionado -- just a guy who likes iconic and eclectic classic vehicles. And while not perfect, this 931 is dependable enough to be used as a daily driver if called upon, and certainly a vehicle which belies it's 34 years of existence. I believe the paint to be factory, as there is no evidence to suggest otherwise (minus touch-up's, stone chips, bumper after eliminating rubber guards). Please review the photos below as I feel they are the true representation of the overall condition of the vehicle. Ask any and all questions prior to placing a bid and I will answer them as quickly and honestly as possible. Inspections are certainly welcome also prior to auction ending -- not after please, as this auction is to purchase and not to simply hold. Any repeated or pertinent questions I will display below for all to review. Reserve price is set low with the assistance of industry leading Hagerty Classic Car evaluation guide. If you require this vehicle to be shipped, I have had great luck shipping/receiving vehicles through www.uship.com. I certainly do not intend to exclude anyone from bidding, but "zero bidders" are discouraged from placing a bid (learned unfortunately through years of non-payments) by having a valid Paypal account necessary. A $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction completion, with the balance due within 7 days. Thank you for looking, and good luck if you choose to place a bid. *If some of my phrases and/or passages in this listing seem similar to a 924 currently listed in another auction, it is because I wrote them when I originally sold the car to the seller. Nice guy and a very nice car. *Photographs taken 3 days prior to listing.
