Vehicle Detail
Looking for a C4500 pickup truck, but want to stand out from the crowd? If so then this one-of-a-kind 1958 GMC 370 C4500 2 ½ ton Pickup is the truck for you! This rig started out as an honest to goodness barn find – picked-up off of a farm in Memphis, Indiana. The farmer was selling this truck to make room in his barn so that his granddaughter could get married in it! It was love at first sight for us, but our main concern was finding a trailer big enough to haul it back to our shop in Louisville. When we mentioned this to the farmer he replied with “Well why would you want to haul it to Louisville? If you want the truck I’ll DRIVE it to Louisville for you!” And as you can see below, we took him up on his offer! So What Makes This truck One-of-a-Kind? If you do a Google search you will notice that neither Chevrolet nor GMC ever produced a 2 ½-ton pick-up truck. That’s where we come in…. We formed the bed sides out of 1/8” steel so that everything would be solid and you wouldn’t hear any rattles while rolling down the road. At the bottom of the bed side, above the running board, there is a formed body accent line that matches the factory body line at bottom of the cab. Many people have commented that the bed on this truck looks as if the factory built it. We like to jokingly tell them that they did build a pickup model, but they were only sold in Antarctica! The bed measures 13’ 3” long x 66 ½” wide and is 14” deep from the bed floor to the top of the bed rail. Speaking of the bed floor, we were able to reclaim the original wood from the flat bed and use it for the floor in the pickup bed. The rear fenders, tailgate and bumper are brand new GM Reproduction parts purchased from LMC Truck. The running boards are new, as well, and have been braced so that they are fully functional. Once all of the fabrication was complete on the bed we sprayed it with a urethane epoxy sealer. This ensures that the new metal is protected from the weather and will serve as an excellent base should you choose to paint it. The wheelbase measures 157” and the truck is rolling on 6 8.25-20 tires that measure 38” tall overall mounted in the factory 20” wheels that have been refinished. To round out the list of cool goodies on this truck make sure you pay attention to the fact that this cab has the BIG BACK WINDOW, and check out the door on the front fenders that open up to give you access to the engine compartment!! DRIVETRAIN The mechanicals on this truck are solid. It only has 14,886 original miles, so it literally runs and drives like a new truck! The engine is a GMC 302 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder (tough as nails) and is backed by a 4-speed transmission. The rear differential is 2-speed (has high and low range), making this truck an 8-speed overall. It starts the first time, every-time and idles as smooth as silk. This truck is fun to drive! We stripped the original 20” wheels down to bare metal and refinished them in a beautiful antique white – they look perfect against the farm fresh patina on the cab. All of the gauges, the headlights, the tail lights, brake lights, and even the horn work! Underneath the truck we cleaned the chassis and components and gave them a fresh coat of satin black. This makes everything look clean and ensures that everything is protected from the elements for years to come. Interior The interior has been left exactly as it was when the truck was driven off of the farm. The seat shows plenty of wear and has several spots that have been farmer fixed with duct tape. Everything else is pretty solid and has a nice patina. There are still notes pinned to the sun visor that were in the truck when we got it. Sitting in this truck is a cool experience – you sit high and can see everything. It feels exactly like driving a big rig! Auction DetailsIf you have zero feedback please contact us before bidding.
