Vehicle Detail

This 1970 VW Bug Convertible by Karmann was purchased by Betty & Norman McGuire from the original owner in Huntington Beach, CA in 1995 with 53,000 original miles and driven back to Tucson, AZ where the snow bird McQuire's have a 2nd home. In the summer of 2002 they drove it to their primary home in U.P. MI where it was beautifully restored and then driven back to Tucson that Fall. It's always slept in a garage, has never been in an accident, and has never had any rust. Tucson, after all, is where the US Air Force stores all their retired aircraft due to the exceptionally dry conditions and lack of oxidation. About 5000 miles and a dozen years ago - absolutely everything that needed replaced or restored was. Pearl white paint # 98N-54858 with a base coat # 98L-54867 was professionally applied. New roof beams, canvas top, headliner, upholstery, carpet, dash & windshield were professionally installed. A Jensen stereo deck was added with 2 front speakers plus 2 rear deck speakers along with a mini Stewart-Warner gauge cluster showing engine oil pressure & temperature to the left of the speedometer. 1600cc single port engine got new pistons, jugs, crank and valve train professionally installed. Starts everytime with a click of the key. Runs like a sewing machine. Exceptionally quick for a stock engine. No smoke. No knocks. No issues. A drop of oil the size of a dime is deposited on the ground sitting overnight which is so typical of an air cooled VW engine that I won't even list it as a flaw. 4 Speed manual transmission was inspected and new clutch installed. Shifts tight and smooth. No leaks. No issues. All new steering gear box, suspension & brake components. Drives smooth & tight. No rattles. 5 American Eagle wheels with 5 new tires. The very last picture shows the Bug in the condition it was when bought by the McGuires. I'm not sure who the guy with the beer gut is in that pic since Mr. McQuire is slender and considerably older? I run a Toyota truck repair and restoration shop in Tucson, AZ. The elderly McGuires recently had me perform an engine swap in their 1994 Toyota 4x4 wherein we refitted it with a 2001 Tacoma V6 engine in place of their broken 1994 3.0 V6 engine. They were so pleased they asked me to help them sell their classic Bug which they simply couldn't drive enough to enjoy and were afraid of it getting damaged in their garage as it had already gotten a ding on the right front fender when an ATV backed into it. As an automotive professional for 40 years I've driven and given this car a thorough inspection and the only flaws I detect are as follows. I initially detected a significant pull to the right under heavy braking so I drove it to my shop and hoisted it into the air, pulled off the front wheels, and without consulting the McGuires immediately installed new front brake shoes & properly lubricated & adjusted all new front brake hardware. Brake pull problem solved. The only other minor issues that need resolved to get to show car quality are as follows: 1) Right front fender has minor damage as shown in pictures. One of the reasons for selling this pristine machine is so that some moron grandson doesn't back another ATV into a fender. 2) One of the stainless snaps is separated on the left rear that secures the top. Only noticable up close. Shown in a picture. 3) Vehicle had an "A paper" title (original miles) when bought from original owner in CA. Title was transferred by the McGuires to MI then to AZ and along the way new AZ title got printed as "B paper" indicating "Mileage in excess of the odometer mechanical limits." __________________________________________________ This bug comes with a clean & clear notarized AZ title along with a box of misc. small new spare parts, a file folder with a dozen restoration photos and hundreds of receipts documenting the restoration. This vehicle has not been detailed. It's just that clean. I took a few pictures on a windy day and some tiny yellow mesquite tree flowers blew into the interior which may show up in some pictures of the seats.
