Vehicle Detail

Trailer & RV Sales, Parts Service and Rentals 270 E Jackson Street Seneca, IL 61360 815/357-3292 1987 VOLKSWAGEN KARMANN CABRIOLET CONVERTIBLE (scroll down for LOTS of pictures) This a barn find, from (Rust free) South Arkansas. I am selling this for my Father. He bought this car about 15 years ago, (last Vehicle inspection was in 1997) with plans to "fix it up" and drive it. It has been stored inside for all these years, and he starts it up and runs it every few months. Now he is getting old, and lost interest. I finally convinced him he should sell, otherwise, it will simply waste away as he gets older.... He has driven a few miles, but to be honest, has never really "put it on the road" as it really needs to TLC. All the fluids need to be checked and changed, the brakes work, but obviously after this many years, they need to be checked over. Basically what you have is a car that runs and drives, but has not had any service done for over 10 years. Tires all hold air, but should be replaced. The car shows 140,700 miles on it, and it has been basically in storage for well over a decade, being started and ran once or twice per year. Do not think you can hop in this car and drive it any distance. It "might" be fine, and am not aware of any issues with the car (it seems to start and run fine) but I strongly suggest giving it a check over before taking off cross country! I would prefer to call this a "easy project" car. The top was without tears or rips up until about a month ago. You see, all the time my dad had the car, he never lowered the top. The first thing I did was drop the top! (which is EASY to do!) But the old vinyl was stiff, and it cracked in a few places. The top frame and mechanism works smooth and easy, the latches all work perfect, and the rear window is real glass in perfect shape. The cover that goes over the rear when the top is down is in good shape. The body is almost perfect. No major damage, very few dings. the hood, doors sides, etc are near perfect. It is missing a door trim on the passenger door (the paint almost looks like the door was re-painted years ago) and the passenger rear turn signal lens is cracked. The lower valance panel on the front is a little scratched, but that is to be expected. The car has ZERO RUST. Look at the pictures, if it looks like rust in the pictures it is just that south Arkansas Red Clay Dirt. The door bottoms, the floor boards, the inner fenders, the exhaust, the trunk floor, you name it, it all looks good. I dont see any rust anywhere. Again, it has not even been rained on in over a decade. The car is dirty. We sort of rinsed off the dust, but not much, as we did not want any water to get inside the car. You can still see the Cobb webs in the pictures of the underside. A quick 2 minute check of a few of the electrical items shows the wipers and headlights work, the turn signals work (but the switch seems like it needed to be "wiggled") the fan motor blows (not sure about the AC ) and the radio comes on, but the display says SAFE, so I am thinking it needs to be programmed? I really did not spend much time twisting knobs and turning on switches, but it seems to be ok. The battery is weak, I will put it on a trickle charge, but you may need to put a battery in it. You look the pictures over. Ask me any questions. You are buying it as is, no warranties. I have told you what I know, and tried to be very honest. If you want me to check something else, just ask. I think this is a GREAT project car, for a father/son, or any person attracted to these Rabbit Volkswagens. Not sure how many survived... It really needs a good cleaning! It will need a new top (easy to get, check on-line) and the front seats (under the seat covers) are dirty and worn. The windshield has a small crack on the drivers side, about 8" long, but otherwise all the Glass is there, in great shape. The body is near perfect, with no rust. The engine runs, with no smoke or noise, and is all stock. Obviously many other little things will need to be replaced, cleaned and or repaired if you want to do it up right. But, all in all, I think for a 25 year old car, that was parked inside when it was around 10 years old, it aint too bad.. Call 815-357-3292 if you want quick answers, or want to come see the car. VIN WVWCA0154HK036519. We have clear title. The Car is located at our sales lot, at 270 East Jackson Street, (US Route 6) Seneca, IL 61360 There are LOTS of pictures, give them a chance to load. Floor boards Even the fuel and brake lines, no rust Cob webs and undercoating, but no rust! Back Seat:
