Vehicle Detail
1971 Deluxe Volkswagen Passenger bus TIME MACHINE. Sierra Yellow with black interior. It runs and drives great. It looks great for being over 42-years-old, it has received lots of love in the past year, and brings smiles everywhere we go! It currently has it’s correct German 1600cc dual port motor in essentially original configuration with tasteful and reliable upgrades. No superfluous “hot rod” modifications or substandard Chinese dune buggy parts! New front brake calipers and pads, new brake reservoir seals, new passenger side tie rod ends, rebuilt steering column and coupler, KYB Gas Adjust shocks, new distributor, new carburetor, new ignition wires, electronic ignition, low output generator upgraded to a Bosch OEM alternator to run modern electronics, OEM VW German type 2 Bus muffler, Halogen headlights, recent compression check at approximately 125-128, 130, 135. Complete servicing, with fresh Valvoline motor and transmission oil. No clutch slipping on hills, no grinding or popping out of gear. The exterior was resprayed original color (estimate was 10-15 years ago). Complete interior curtain set with matching pillows, original rubber mats and full interior carpet with floor mats, head-liner in good condition. Major window rubbers all replaced, along with windshield seal, upgraded middle “camper windows” with screens. Chassis undercoating is in excellent condition, Tires at 65 %. Drivers / Passengers floorboards and battery tray are solid. It is ready to enjoy for years to come. Everything works as intended from Germany, (Horn, fuel guage, wipers, turn signals, defroster, accessory lighter outlet, radio, heater, all exterior lighting). This original 1971 Deluxe VW Bus and is a good example of the last of the upright motor, classic type 2 Buses. Looking at all the original German details and seeing how the factory really did things back then. This is not a restored bus, it is a daily driver, and is not perfect. The body has normal dents, dings and scratches to be expected on a 42 year old vehicle. It includes an extra sliding door to replace the current dented one, which will need to be painted to match if installed, ( We received a $300.00+ estimate) and we feel this is a cosmetic issue for the body, the current door functionally works fine. We have received many compliments that it is impressive and appealing as it is. That is up to the next owner to decide. In an effort for full disclosure, we have complete pictures available upon request, let us know what else you’d like to see! I do not have the middle seat, but they are easy to come by and in my opinion the Bus is more useful and versatile without the middle seat. The original rubber mats are under the carpet. The Coleman “weekender package” is a great alternative to hauling around a bunch of permanently installed Westfalia space crowding, and heavy camper cabinets, that only get used once a year. If the Bus sells for the right price, the Coleman “weekender package” illustrated in the photos, ( Stove, Lantern, Cooler, and Thermos and period correct roof rack with surf pads) go with it. Included with the sale are an original operators manual, original tire jack, and ignition and door keys. I have a clear Oregon tile in hand. FYI- I do have an original Zbed I purchased and never installed that I would be willing to sell. The Bus has been prepared to accomodate the Zbed. (the floor has been prepped with the template and the rubber mats are ready to accommodate the brackets when installed). I planned to mount the Zbed but never got around to it prior to the sale. Hope that helps answer some questions!
