Vehicle Detail

Up for bid here is a 1972 Porsche 911T. I wouldn't call this a barn find but it has spent the last 14 or so years sitting in a covered parking space at a local mechanics shop. The car was originally sent to the mechanic to have an engine rebuild. At some point it was decided that it would be better to build a new motor on a good bottom end so the original motor was sent home with the customer. While this new motor was under construction the car itself was sent out for a new teal paint job. The paint was finished and the car returned to the shop within the first year. The new motor was finished eventually but never installed. And there it sat. With a car owner (friend) who was not in a hurry and a mechanic who always had some other squeaky wheel to grease we end up in October 2012. The mechanic has sold his business and the owner of the car needs to get it moved because the new owner of the shop does not want to be in the middle of a 14 year saga. Both the mechanic and the owner have different opinions and memories of how things were left all those years earlier. Some feelings were hurt and egos bruised but one thing leads to another and the owner of the car lands at my door and I end up with a numbers matching metallic gold 1972 911T, original mfi motor and 915 trans. Today I have come to the conclusion that i just can not do this car justice. Upon thorough inspection of the car I have determined the car is as rust free as they get. I checked the car on a lift and with an ice pick and only found one spot where there is rust. There is a spot that is about 5 inches long and 1 inch tall directly in front of the steering rack recess on the vertical part of the inner fender on the drivers side. That is it. You are welcome to come and take a look, I will even let you use my ice pick and get it onto a lift for you. This area is also clearly shown in the photobucket photos. The car, as i said earlier, was originally metallic gold and carries the correct door tag with 140 9-3 on it. That said the car was repainted 2 times. Before it was painted its current teal color it was also painted Mercedes Benz Tobacco Brown. As to the condition of the current paint, 14 years of sitting covered in dust has taken its toll. While doing a great job of protecting the car from the ravages of rust, it is in definite need of help. The interior of the car is still its original dark brown color. It is not perfect but most of it could be presentable with a little elbow grease and time. The door panels are the worst and the dash is cracked. The engine is the original, un-rebuilt, 2.4 MFI T motor. I turned it over 4 or 5 times in a row and it spins very freely. I also confirmed that the drivers side cam was spinning and that the mechanical fuel pump, which still has its original belt on it, was also spinning freely. I also used a small inspection camera to look inside the motor. I looked up through the open exhaust, down the spark plug holes and in the intake and all I fond was carbon and a filthy sheen of oil. If you would like to check the motor out you are welcome to come over and use my friends inspection camera. The transmission is also original to the car. The only two things I know about it are that it is very dirty and it is not an LSD. In some of the pictures you will see the motor and trans out of the car. As of today the motor and trans are back in the car. One heat exchanger and the muffler are missing. The oil cooler is not installed on the engine but a Bagged, Cleaned, Pressure Tested and Labeled cooler is included. On the exterior of the car you will see there are through the grill fog lights (Hella) and the front bumper is a steel S bumper with S trim. Both of these are original to the car and are genuine. The wheels on the car at the time of the pictures are a set of rollers i keep around. You can imagine that after 14 years of sitting the old tires would not hold air. The original wheels are flat 6's and will be on the car with good rolling rubber when the car is set to be picked up. The mirrors on the car are not original and the drivers outer door handle is missing. The car has 2 very dead batteries in the front trunk. I have a ton of pictures at PhotoBucket. Please message me for a link to the pictures or call me at 805-550-8105. Please, I live in California so middle of the night calls. Inspections are encouraged. Please let me know if you want to come by to check things out and I will make sure we have access to a lift, an inspection camera, an ice pick and any other tools you might need. Because the car is not running sending it to a shop is not an option really. A $500 deposit is required within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The remainder to be paid by wire transfer to my bank within 7 days. No checks of any kind. I will email copies of all signed papers once full payment has been made. I can hold the car at my shop for 2 weeks after the auction. If you have special needs for some reason please let me know so we can work it out. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I will do everything I can to help. I will make myself available to meet any shipping company as long as I get 48 hours notice. International sales are cool too and will require a wire transfer. If you have any questions please let me know. I will answer them as quickly as I can. If you need more pictures, after you have looked at the photobucket pics, please let me know and be specific. you may call me at 805-550-8105 if you have other questions. This is a no reserve auction so bid often and bid lots. inkFrog Analytics On Jan-25-13 at 10:16:59 PST, seller added the following information: Just received the COA from Porsche. This will be included with the car. This confirms all the numbers but also the front S bumper and the through the grill fog lights as well as the flat Fuchs. It also says it had a rear spoiler at one time according to Porsche. On Jan-26-13 at 08:59:25 PST, seller added the following information: Just added a couple pictures of the vin plates.
