1968 PONTIAC GTO NO RESERVE BIDDERS WITH A RATING OF LESS THAN 10 MUST CONTACT ME PRIOR TO BIDDING OR YOUR BID WILL CANCELED. Up for auction is my 1968 Pontiac GTO 2 door hardtop. This car is a genuine 242 GTO. It is a project car that will need a full restoration but it is 98% rust free. I believe it has spent most, if not all, of its life in the dry southwest area. It appears to be all factory original, including the paint (at least what’s left of it) and has not been modified or butchered. The odometer shows 18,344, which I believe to be the actual mileage of 118,344 but I cannot verify the true actual mileage. Yes, the car is an ugly duckling right now but it is a very good candidate for restoration – either to a nice driver for a moderate sum or a show car if you want to go all in. I can’t stress enough that you can see everything this car needs and it is not a rust bucket full of bondo that is hidden under a bunch of primer or crappy paint. I have literally seen dozens of decent looking cars that have undergone restoration and the owner sadly discovers massive bondo and rust that requires extensive panel replacement – including roof, trunk floor, body pan, door, fenders, and even some cowls. Please read all of the following description carefully and you will know exactly what you are buying with this car. The car is basically how I got it except I spent six weeks last spring cleaning almost every inch of the car except for up under the dash. You can see the factory primer and over spray on the interior panels and the factory paint on the lower half of the car. There is no dirt, grease, grime, or junk covering up or hiding areas of the car that you need to see to assess the true condition of the car. There may be a very small amount of the southwest red rock dust in some crevices here and there, so please don’t mistake that for rust. I have provided as many pictures as Ebay allows, but I took many more pictures. So if you want a picture of something that is not shown, send me an Ebay message and I will try and get it for you as soon as possible. The car was born in Arlington, Texas on the second week of March 1969. It was originally built with Springmist Green paint, black vinyl top, black interior, 400 CI / 350HP / 4 BBL, TH400 automatic transmission (code PX), 2.93 open rear axle (code WD), hideaway headlights, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, bucket seats, and console. I have the PHS for the car and included a picture of the build sheet in the last picture. Presently the car is missing the flowing major components: engine assembly; radiator and upper brackets; master cylinder and power brake booster; all of the air conditioning system in the engine compartment including the housing; torque converter; bucket seats; console; shifter; trunk lid; wiper arms; lower front seat belts and rear seat belts; clock; radio; wiper switch; ignition switch is there but not serviceable; and steering wheel – there is a later GM column in the car now so it can be steered. Not listed may be a few minor trim type pieces. If you do not see an item in the pictures or description, it is not included with the car except as noted below. Since the pictures were taken, I have purchased hood hinges, hood scoops, brake pedal assembly, parking brake assembly, and a steering column. All of these parts are correct for this car. These parts are included in the sale and go with the car. Here is a detailed description of everything I can think of: BODY: Just about every body panel has some dents and dings as well as damage to the left quarter panel. The right front fender has a couple of larger dents; the right door has a very large dent; the right quarter has a couple of small creases in front and back of the wheel opening and a half dozen or so dents on the upper center wheel lip area; the left front fender has several smaller dents in the front side and two little dings in the dog leg; the left door has a couple of small dents; the right quarter has major damage you can see in the pictures and three-fourths of the outer wheel well was also damaged and cut out; the hood has a few small dents around the scoops and a couple of dents on the left side in the center – it appears there may be a mild kink in the hood there; the roof has two light creases in each rear corner and three other smaller dents or dings; and the front valance has some dent damage around the left turn signal area. RUST: As I said, this car is 98% rust free. The only rust on this entire car, excluding surface rust, is a few pinholes on the left side of the trunk floor and a very small area behind the right rear wheel opening. I think this rust happened only because there was some junk and dirt in the trunk and lower quarters and it got wet in those areas because there was no trunk lid. The rest of the car is incredibly rust free. I couldn’t show all of the pictures I have, but you can see from the pictures of the floor pans, the entire lower fender and rocker panel area, the bottom of the door, and the inner cowl there is no rust at all. I did include a picture of the drivers side front floor pan where the rear wiring loom lays and you can see there is no rust whatsoever, which is one of the areas that are normally prone to being rusted out. Even the inner rocker panel, not pictured, has the original paint and not even any surface rust. Even though the body panels need dent repair, you will not have to be replacing and fabricating half the car because it is rusted out. CHASSIS: The chassis is in great condition. It appears all original without any modifications and has all the original components, lines, clips, hangers, etc. The frame has only light surface rust and no pitting. The only thing I can see missing is the rear coil spring hold-downs. Note: I want to clarify the car does have a gas tank. I dropped the gas tank to see if the tank sticker was still there, which it was not. While the tank was off, I took a picture of the underside of the trunk floor, which is picture #21. The tank is back on the car now. INTERIOR: The interior is totally stripped except for the dash area. What you see in the pictures is what is there except for a few interior parts described in the miscellaneous parts section. The dash pad has several large cracks; the wood grain was shot so I stripped it entirely and only the original brown plastic backing plate is there – it has three small cracks in it; the upper shoulder belts with clips are still there; and the sun visors are still there. BUMPERS: The front endura bumper is good with no major damage but is weathered on top with a couple of small gouges. The rear bumper is tweaked on the left side and has two holes drilled in the lower center where a bumper hitch used to be. The rear tail light lenses are good except for a couple of small pieces missing on the upper flanges. HIDEAWAY HEADLIGHTS: The hideaway headlight system is complete and intact including the headlight switch with the vacuum ports. The only thing missing is the vacuum canister. The headlights were manually tested with a hand vacuum pump and they do work. Each headlight was hooked up separately, pumped up and opened, held air, then released and closed. They were a little stiff and will need some maintenance and lubrication. WIRING: All of the wiring is original and appears intact and in very good condition. I found only two wires cut under the dash, a black and a white, which I think may be the door jamb light switch wires, but I’m not positive. There are about four or five wires in the engine compartment that are not cut but do have some cracks or insulation missing. GLASS: All of the glass is original and not broken or cracked. The windshield has some bubbling around the edges in a couple of areas and both quarter windows have scratches from the anti-rattle bracket scraping the glass. The side windows, wing vents, and rear window are all very good. TRANSMISSION: Includes the original TH400 automatic transmission code PX that is correct for a 400/350HP automatic. The VIN on the transmission matches the body VIN. The operating condition of the transmission is unknown. VINYL TOP: The car had a black vinyl top and it was removed by a previous owner. Naturally there was some old glue and surface rust on the top. Due to the nature of vinyl tops rotting out roofs, I decided to completely sand the top down to see if there was any serious rust or damage to the roof. I included two pictures of the entire roof area after it was sanded to show there is no rust problem at all on the roof. There are two coats of flat black enamel on the roof now to protect it. WHEELS AND TIRES: There are four matched 14x6 GM steel wheels and four good matched tires on the car. The tires have excellent tread but do show some weather checking. All the lug nuts are brand new. MISC PARTS: I have a picture of the miscellaneous parts included with the car but Ebay cuts off pictures at 24 so I could not include it in the listing. The miscellaneous parts include: all the floor and trunk pan drain hole plugs; both rocker moldings with clips and screws – each of the rocker moldings had been bent outward at the rear of the front fender line but are salvageable; two non-original and unmatched rally II wheels; transmission flywheel; 3 door panels in poor condition with metal trim – missing the passenger door panel; non-original master cylinder and power brake booster; a bag of miscellaneous bolts and screws; rear seat top and bottom – the bottom is very good with one small tear – the top upholstery is shot but it is a good frame; one right front wheel well molding that is very nice; two door sill plates in fair condition; one right rear lower rocker molding trim that is very nice; two rear seat armrests; and a couple of other misc parts. Here are the requisite terms and conditions of the sale: SHIPPING: The buyer must arrange for and pay for all shipping and transportation costs. The car is located near St. George, UT 84738 and must be picked up there. Please be sure to tell your transporter that the car will have to be winched onto the trailer. QUESTIONS: Please send me an Ebay message if you have any questions or want additional pictures and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Include your phone number if you want to talk to me and I will call you back as soon as possible. Please send your message as soon as possible and please do not wait until the last minute. TITLE AND TRANSFER: The car has a clear Utah title in my name and I will also provide a Bill of Sale. DEPOSIT: A $500.00 USD NON-REFUNDABLE deposit through PayPal will be required immediately after the auction closes. PAYMENT: The balance of funds due will be payable within 7 days by USPS Money Order, a Cashiers Check from USBANK, or by PayPal only if you add the 3% PayPal fee. Please advise me of the payment method you will use as soon as possible after the auction closes. The car will not be released until all funds have been verified and cleared. WARRANTY: THIS CAR IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY. REFUNDS: NO REFUND OR RETURN. IF YOU BUY IT, YOU PAY FOR IT AND YOU OWN IT. NO EXCEPTIONS. BIDDERS WITH AN EBAY RATING BELOW 10: If you have an Ebay rating below 10, you MUST contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bid without notice. I regret to have to do this, but unscrupulous bidders force me to join the ranks of those who do not wish to deal with people who have no intention of fulfilling their obligations. I have provided a thorough, detailed, and completely honest description of this car. If this is a car you want and you have the funds readily available to buy it, then please bid. If you need to acquire the funds, get permission to buy it, or want to bid and not pay for it, then do not bid on this car. I am not interested in playing games, dealing with tire kickers, scammers, or non-paying bidders. Thank you for looking at my listing.
