1962 OLDSMOBILE F85 CONVERTIBLE 1962 OLDSMOBILE F85 CONVERTIBLE. Up for sale is my 1962 Oldsmobile F85 Convertible. I have owned this car for 11 years and it's time to move on to a new project. I will cover everything I know in the information below including the good and bad. Make sure to look at all the pictures below and the two videos way down at the bottom of this page. This is not a Cutlass model but the rare convertible F85 model with front bench seat. This is the only ebay category for this listing I could find. Matching numbers on the original V8 motor. I have driven the car about 2000 miles since 2001. Usually around town during the summer. I do have the original Protecto-O-Plate from when the car was new. Connecticut was the original state of title. I have a clear Massachusetts title in hand made out in my name and is transferrable to the new owner. The body is a older restoration but in fine shape. It was completely done over in 2001. It has held up well with few blemishes. The chrome was all new in 2001 including all bumpers. The trim was re-chromed where needed. The color is not original but is a fine example of a nice deep red color. Paint has nice shine. I wax every year in spring and fall. All exterior components work including doors (no sag, shut tight), hood (has new insulation), and trunk lid. Locks all work with existing keys I have. Body is straight on both sides. See pictures below. The interior is all original and is in great shape considering the car is over 50 years old. It has a split back front bench seat. Both seats have no rips or tear. The dashboard has no cracks. I installed new seatbelts in front and back (they are required for Mass inspection). Interior was completely removed and floor boards were sanded (no rot) and painted with 4 coats of rust inhibitive paint. New factory fit carpet was installed. Door panels are red with chrome trim. The front panels are good with exception of speakers (not installed by me) at bottom and slight decompostion of material at bottom of each door. Factory AM Radio was rebuilt and works but not great. Has original factory speaker in dashboard that does work. Wipers work but switch does need replacement. I do not drive the car in the rain so I do not usually use the wipers. The clock is the only dash component that does not work. All others including speedo, temp gauge, lights, directionals and fan controls work fine. The engine is original 215 V8 with matching numbers. It was rebuilt sometime before I bought the car in 2001 but I have no documention on this. It runs well (see video below). I have replaced almost all bolt on components with engine specific replacements. Some of the items replaced are, alternator, starter, water pump, fuel pump, coil, plugs, wires, points, condensor, valve cover gaskets, battery, battery cables, and many more. Also rebuilt carburetor and radiator. The complete heating system was removed and rebuilt including fan motor, heater core, diverter switch, and hoses. I painted most components as you can see in pictures below. The air cleaner housing is not original but was the closest I could find (off 1962 Cutlass). Transmission was rebuilt in 2002 by local transmission center near my home. It was $1800.00 and I do have receipt for that. Center bearing needs replacement soon as it has slight wobble noise when operating the car. Rear end cover was removed and new gasket installed along with rear end fluid. Leaks a little at drive shaft connection. I usually check fluid level before each spring and add fluid if necessary. Single exhaust system was new in 2001 as were all brakes and components. Emergency brake works fine. There is a slight lockup on left rear wheel when car comes out of storage after winter but works fine after first drive. The top is not original but was replaced before I bought the car. It is in good shape but will need replacement sometime down the road. I do not drive the car in the rain so it is down most of the time except during storage. The rear plastic window is heavily faded but not cracked. The top is hydraulic and I have replaced almost all components include master pump (in trunk) and pistons behind rear door panels. I works great with no problems. The window felts have all been replaced but the rubber gasket on top that meets top of windows needs replacement. Again, I usually drive with the top down so this is not a issue. The under carriage is in good shape with no rot. It was undercoated when body was done in 2001. Has original springs but does have replacement shocks. Tires are new factory stock with wide whitewalls. The hubcaps are original in excellent shape. Problems are as follows. Remember this car is over 50 years old and acts it's age sometimes. It leaks, stalls, and breaks just like any old car. I usually warm the car up before operating. It will stall if you try to rush it. After warm up it runs fine. It does have slight wobble noise coming from center bearing on drive shaft. This will need replacement sometime down the road. Slight leaks from transmission gasket and rear end at drive shaft. Body does have bondo but was done professionally in 2001. The only bubbles are small on bottom in front of rear tire (see picture below). This car would be great for a tinkerer like me who likes to drive a old car and can do work required to keep it running. I suppose you could have a mechanic do repairs as necessary but I like do do these things myself. The price I am asking is firm at $6900.00. This is a fair price as book value starts at $8700 and goes all the way up past $13,000. One just sold for over $11,000 at Gateway Classic Cars. Remember this car is in great shape but will need repairs as time goes on. A non-refundable $500 deposit will be paid via paypal upon purchase using buy now. The remainder $6400 will be due in cash before car is picked up or shipped. I will assist buyer in working with shipper to load car for shipment to your home. The car is sold as is with NO warranties. Please remember this before you purchase the car. Make sure to look at all the pictures below and the two videos way down at the bottom of this page. Thanks for looking.
