Vehicle Detail
We have one of the largest collections of quality collector cars in the United States. For over 20 years, we have specialized in finding the most unique vehicles in the world. See our page above to view our collection of over 100 of the world's best collector cars. 1956 Packard Caribbean The Fifties were the age of glamorous, luxurious convertibles in America. General Motors blanketed the category with its Eldorado, Skylark and Fiesta. Lincoln offered the Premiere. Packard, long the flagship of American luxury automobiles, countered with the Caribbean and made sure that it stood out among its competitors with power, luxury and features that set it apart. In 1956, the last year it was offered, the Caribbean was powered by Packard's 374 cubic inch overhead valve V-8 with dual four-barrel carburetors rated at 310 horsepower -- ten horsepower more than Chrysler's 300C, five more than the Eldorado and 25 more than the Premiere. Each was equipped with Packard's exclusive Ultramatic automatic transmission. Comfort and convenience accessories like pushbutton shift control, signal-seeking radio, Torsion Level suspension, power steering, brakes, seats and windows available as options on other Packards were standard on the Caribbean. Reversible seat cushions with leather on one side and soft, plush cloth on the other were a feature available on no other American luxury convertible. The 1956 Caribbeans were visually distinguished by an effusive color palette of tri-tone combinations combining pastels and metallics in a flamboyant array. It was the last year of the Senior Packard, but with the Caribbean it went out in style. Packard built just 276 Caribbean convertibles in 1956, making them one of the most rare and exclusive of all Fifties American automobiles. This 1956 Packard Caribbean Convertible is a well preserved, largely original and sumptuously equipped example in Ivory with Pastel Blue and Roman Bronze accents. The interior is upholstered in the same palette, with original leather, dashboard and door trim and new brown carpets matching the cloth of the reversible seat cushions. In addition to its extensive standard equipment it has a Guide stoplight viewer, new chrome wire wheels, new correct style bias ply wide whitewall tires and dual rear antennas. The engine has the correct batwing air cleaner for its pair of Rochester 4-barrel carburetors, chrome valve covers, quilted black hood blanket and has been professionally detailed. The paint is a quality older repaint. The chrome is sound, the Torsion Level suspension works correctly and it runs well. It has just been freshened after long term museum display where it received excellent continuing care and attention. With its distinctive colors, quality care over years and rarity this is a beautiful example of the standards of design, luxury, quality and performance which distinguished Packard for over half a century.
