Vehicle Detail
This is a true survivor 1955 Thunderbird. The original miles on this car are 31,915 as of this posting. Here are the options on this car. Both tops, power seat, power windows, power steering, automatic transmission, fender skirts, full wheel covers, backup lights, radio, heater, engine dress kit, windshield washer, outside mirrors and seat belts. Every standard item and every optional item works as it should on this car. Here is some history on this car. The car was purchased new in North Carolina for the lady of the house. The husband and wife owned a home in North Carolina and home and business in Florida. Whenever there was a change to made in residences the Thunderbird was taken to the train station where it would be loaded on a rail car to have it transported between the two locations. It was used sparingly primarily for the wife's transportation. When the wife passed the car was put on blocks and stored in the North Carolina garage. When the husband passed it became the property of the nephew in the San Diego area and it was transported by truck to San Diego in 1982. The nephew rarely drove the car and it was stored in his garage when not driven. The car was last registered in 2000 with California historical auto plates. The nephew contacted me and asked if I could get the car running because he needed to sell the car. I made an agreement with the nephew to purchase the car and I started repairing and replacing parts where needed. The car is in remarkable condition considering most everything is original to the car. It was painted sometime in the past but I would guess at least 30 years ago and there are numerous touch ups. There is zero rust on this car. The original chrome shines great. There is a dent in the rear bumper. The original door panels and dash are in good condition. I did replace the foam and seat cover as it was too far gone to save. The original soft top will need to be replaced as it has some holes in it and it has shrunk up from years of being stowed. The hardtop will need to be refinished. The nephew had the original 'teapot' carburetor replaced with a Edlebrock and an adapter. It works fine but unfortunately the nephew could not locate the original carburetor. The car still has the original 6 volt positive ground system. In addition to replacing the seat cover I installed a new fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel lines, coil, Pertronix electronic ignition, 6 volt battery, heater vacuum control valve, and the interior rear view mirror ( I have the original ). The clock was professionally rebuilt with the original movement. The original radio works, the wipers work, all of the lights including backup lights and turn signals work. All of the gauges work including the tachometer. Both power windows work great and the power seat works in all directions. The car runs and drive fine. The drive train is still healthy. The tires are old bias ply F78x15 and the tread is excellent but I would not trust them for extended driving. Interesting side note is when I took the fender skirts off I noticed the original rubber grommet over the tabs to keep the skirt from moving and making noise. Also, the original factory inspection stamps are still there including one located on the bottom side of the cardboard glove box liner. The car is sold with the a signed California 'pink' slip and a bill of sale. It is not currently registered.
