His story was that an electrical company owned it for years as a service truck. Previous owner did an amateur job of restoration and it shows. Previous owner rebuilt the step up areas and they are sold. This is a V8 truck; not that many were made as this was the first year for V8s in Studebaker trucks. The biggest issues I found and cured was to thoroughly rebuild the brakes including new lines, internal parts, wheel cylinders and master cylinder, etc. Wiring was corrected and all lights work well. I rebuilt the door bottoms and installed better or new lower hinges. I drive it a lot and it hauls stuff. It’s a truck and it rides like a truck! It could look much more beautiful if you want that but I get a kick out of spectators and their comments when it is seen “working”. Hauled two one ton loads of gravel with it last fall. I rebuilt the tailgate, repainted the grill and bumpers, made things work and while it needs things it can go to work and a car show. Dummy spotlight on passenger side. A RELIABLE DRIVER. ALWAYS STARTS. GREAT HAULER. ATTRACTS ATTENTION. IF YOU CAN FIND ONE AS GOOD FOR LESS PRICE. . . . BUY IT! THE GOOD: New Brake pads, Drums ground, rebuilt cylinders, rebuilt & sleeved master cylinder, new front wheel seals, new brake lines and hoses, Rebuilt emergency brake. All in 2004. Brake pedal may need adjustment as pedal works better on a quick double pump recently. NOS 1955 year specific Headlamp Bezel surrounds in 2004. Finding a pair of these is VERY difficult. Reliable starter, Starts cold or hot. Electric works to the best of my knowledge except I am not sure about the windshield wipers which needs a new on-off switch. Has optional electric windshield wipers. Have a good used windshield that goes with truck. Has a small bulls eye which is not too noticeable and will be a good replacement for this driver. Door hinges posts were reinforced or rebuilt in 2004. A better tailgate was rebuilt and put on in 2004. Most exhaust pipe is new and new muffler installed in 2004. Battery less than 2 years old and just fine. Reliable, strong running 224 CI engine and good transmission. Keeps up with highway traffic. Uses regular unleaded gas. Radiator was professionally cleaned and pressure tested & New upper and lower radiator hoses installed in 2005. Some cans of spray touchup paint go with the truck. All lubed and tuned. Inside cab interior boards are about 6 years old. Minnesota Collector License and Title. Always kept inside. THE BAD: Front end is worn and rattles when on bumpy roads though it steers well and stays on road. Wiper switch needs replacement. Gas tank has pinholes on top side. Gas gauge gives indication of fuel level; but not exactly reliable. Speedometer is not registering MPH as needle fell off. I have a replacement gauge unit that goes with this truck. Passenger Door inside handle does not open door from inside so door must open by using outside handle. Drivers door glass is broken and needs replacement. Flat glass should be around $75. Windshield cracked. Have good used replacement that goes with truck. Clutch a little sticky sometimes. This is most all I can recall. Of course there are probably other little things. THE UGLY: Has a history under prior owner of bondo and amateur metal repairs. Some cans of custom touchup spray paint go with the truck. This is all I can recall to mention.
