See our page above to view our collection of over 100 of the world's best collector cars. 1960 Metropolitan Hook and Ladder Overland Amusements in Lexington, Massachusetts built diminutive rides for amusement parks including this unusual one based on a Nash Metropolitan. The company's original design used Crosleys, but by the late Fifties the supply of sound Crosleys was running short and Overland turned to the Metropolitan as a successor. This one comes with a catalog sheet and a letter from Overland's Charles G. Addison to Mr. J. W. Watson at American Motors' Metropolitan Club asking for assistance in locating suitable Metropolitans to use in their conversions and praising the Metropolitan's strength and adequate power. Built in the style of a hook and ladder truck, the trailer seats about two dozen kids on outward facing benches and the vehicle is equipped with several pieces of authentic fire equipment including hoses, axes, fire extinguisher, siren, bell and flashing light. Wooden ladders double as ingenious safety gates. This one is lettered "Storyland Jr. Fire Dept." and has a 1960 Pennsylvania registration sticker, indicating that it probably once operated at the Storyland park in Schellsburg, Pennsylvania which closed in the early 80's. It has been mechanically freshened and could be used as is but really deserves a restoration. The Crosley version is rare, the Metropolitan version is nearly unheard of .
