Vehicle Detail
Here is a 1955 Studebaker Speedster. Studebaker fans know it's 1 of 2,215 ever made. It is the best original condition Speedster I have ever seen! That's why I bought this car in January 2006 from an Indiana Studebaker Club members estate and he had it in storage for a many years. It has been in a dry storage facility during the time I have owned it and I do not see any condition changes from the time I bought it. The Seller (Ron Krasek) of Indiana had it from 1996-Dec 2005. I had the engine running in 2006 for a short test time so that is the last time I tested the engine. It ran good on a temporary gas tank. The car is missing the filler pipe into the gas tank, the brake pedal, sill plates at the doors, the wheel covers, the trunk handle and one back up light. Other than those things it is complete as far as I can see when inspecting it. ------->>>>>> There are 69 pictures at: http://photobucket.com/1955Speedster If you want a particular picture of something I have missed let me know and i will add it to the photobucket album. You will see pictures of a very solid unrestored Speedster. I have been too busy with other projects and working these past years to get extra time to spend on this car so I do not know much more about it or it's operating condition. i have several running Studebakers that I drive and maintain plus selling truck parts. Generally the body appears very straight and solid as the pictures indicate. Very few nicks or dents of any noticeable size to pick out. All the exterior trim is in place; expect a few dents and dings. Chrome is what you'd expect: the stainless had some dents and will need some polishing, the pot metal pieces have the typical pitting that comes from age and they need polishing to look better. The paint is generally good but there are a few spots where it is peeling or something is happening; see the pictures. I show many lower body panel pictures so you can see that the condition; apparently solid and straight. I suspect it has been repainted some time in the past as the paint looks too good in many places. The hood latch does not lock the hood down and needs adjustment. The hood is NOT sprung in the rear corners and raises easily. Generally the stainless and chrome are in decent condition. Some polishing and buffing will bring it out shiney. The tires all hold air. The brakes are not operable and need to be rebuilt; no pressure from the brake pedal to the brakes. The car rolls easily and will load without problems. On the inside the headliner is in very impressive condition; nice and tight, (IIRC it is leather too). The seat leather is in good condition, no noticed holes, tears or abrasive wear. Some seat rethreading will be needed on the drivers seat as some of the threads are worn off; still holding but best get them rethreaded. The dash is complete and in great condition with only minor wear. Floors are very solid and I do not detect any rust through on the floors as far as normal detection methods go. The door and interior rear body panels are in very decent condition for a car of this age. Of course fans will know the inside has all leather head liner, seats and door/body panels and rear package tray deck. Very classy and chromed out to the MAX! An area of concern that will need repair is the lower driver door post where some rust has occurred and it lets the heavy driver door sag a bit. A minor metal repair here will take care of this issue. Of course this car has the automatic transmission and wind up antennae, The trunk floor is very solid (see pics) and that's wonderful. The engine compartment is complete and pretty clean. As stated before the engine last test ran in 2006 and so I cannot tell you much more about its condition. Front fender rear tear drops and rear fender front tear drop areas are S-O-L-I-D. The cars odometer says 64,961 miles. That could be true, but I am not representing the mileage as factual. I do not know. What may have saved this car from more deterioration was the fact that the front carpets and trunk floor cover were stripped out and could not trap moisture. Early owners apparently took very good care of this car. It has been kept in a dry storage building and covered (under a proper car cover) for the years I have owned it. I suppose I am missing some small things. Ask if you have particular concerns. Nothing is perfect but this is a great start for a Speedster project. I intended to get it mechanically operating and then drive the snot out of it with all it's blemishes and personality BECAUSE you just do not see these going down the road very often anywhere! I believe in the Studebaker "Drivers" Club" and that they should be driven. No title registered so Minnesota Bill of Sale upon payment. Like I said, “This is the best original unrestored 1955 Speedster I have ever seen in the Midwest and it is without salt damage or a lot of rust. Make it yours.
