schantzmd store Description International Buyers Welcome.Local Inspections Welcome (951)323-9396 (Mike) Reserve set super low at $3500! Up for sale is a 1976 Porsche 914 2.0L with a freshly rebuilt (0) mile GEX long block engine. The car runs and drives but is not currently registered (I was told that it has been non-oped since 2006). This is a great car for the person that doesn't mind doing some paint and trim work and wants the major mechanical stuff already done. I bought this car from a gentleman who had removed the engine but was never able to reinstall it. He told me that about 10k miles before he blew his old engine he had the transmission rebuilt, a new windshield installed, the brakes redone, and a new set of tires and rims installed. He did not have any paperwork to substantiate his claim but as you can see from the photos the tires, rims, and transmission all appear to of been recently replaced. Also, before installing the engine I removed a valve cover and took a snapshot of the valve train. As you can see from the photos it appears freshly rebuilt with GEX stamping the inside of the heads (see close up pic). Description/Condition: Rust: Very little was found. The rear trunk and floorboards are great and the car still has its original battery box. The front trunk looks good too but the bottom was cut out for an A/C unit (I can include a front trunk section from another car for N/C if you request it). The only rust found was a small hole on the LF inner fender well and a little around the lower frame rail on the passenger side (The car has no flex to it so the frame rail rust should be superficial). Exterior: Overall the body is very straight and no signs of any previous accidents were found. All the body joints line up well and the doors close solid. The paint is definitely in poor shape and shows signs of cracking and peeling (Just consider the paint a 20 footer). Also, most of the exterior seals will need to be replaced and the lenses all show signs of weathering. Interior: Overall its in pretty decent shape for a 76. The dash only has one crack in the center and the carpet is in OK shape. The seats and door panels are also in fair shape and only have a few minor ~3/4"-1" nicks. The rear targa pad has the normal splits in it at every mounting hole. Drivetrain: The engine only has about 2 hours run time on it so assume that you'll have to give it ~1000 miles to fully break in. The engine runs good right now and has lots of power but it does have a slight hesitation. I'm going to see if I can tune the carb in a little better before the week ends but assume that you may have to have the carb rebuilt. The transmission seems to shift well and the gears feel tight and firm. The trans does appear to grind during quick downshifts so I'll check the clutch adjustment this week. The brakes work great and the pedal stays high during brake application. The E-brake currently works OK but does seem weak so assume that you'll have to adjust the rear brake pad air clearance gap. Issues to be addressed: 1) Paint, seals, and lenses are required to make the exterior of this car look great again. 2) The speedometer does not work and needs to be repaired (the cable is broken). 3) The radio is not currently hooked up. 4) Both seat adjuster handles need to be replaced. 5) The rear trunk spring mechanism needs to be reinstalled. 6) A front trunk section needs to be welded back in. 7) The seat belts are a little sticky and don't retract that well. 8) The heater system needs to be installed. On Mar-27-11 at 12:28:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Note to Californian bidders: Since this is a 1976 car it will require a smog check if registered in CA. Therefore if you wish to legally smog the car you will need to re-install the stock EFI system. For out of state buyers this will not be an issue if your state does not require a smog check. Thanks, Mike On Apr-01-11 at 13:33:56 PDT, seller added the following information: I adjusted the carb a little more today and it helped with the hesitation issue quite a bit. The remaining hesitation is probably due to the idle jet being too small for the engine. Therefore I would recommend that after the engine breaks in to re-jet the carb. I also adjusted the clutch today and took the car down the street. The transmission shifts up through all the gears very well and the gear shifts feel crisp and tight. Downshifting through all the gears feel very good also except for 1st gear, which still grinds during quick downshifts. The old owner had told me that the transmission had been "gone through" about 10k miles ago and when I received the car I saw evidence of new seals/gaskets. Since I'm not 100% happy with the 1st gear downshift issue and since I don't want to mis-represent the condition of the transmission please assume that the transmission may of just been inspected and re-sealed. I also forgot to mention in the description that the reverse light switch still need to be hooked up. Finally, I called the DMV today and spoke to Richard (Operator# H3) and he told me that current CA registration fees are at ~$119. Therefore if you register the car in California you'll be looking at about $200 to transfer and title the car. Thanks, Mike
