WE ARE OFFERING THIS CAR AT NO RESERVE! HIGH BID WINS! Up for bids we have this very hard-to-find 1981 VW Rabbit LS Diesel. This car is a fresh local trade-in, a one owner vehicle, is all original, and is in great overall shape for its age. These cars are becoming very hard to find, especially in this condition, and are very highly sought after for those wishing to run bio-fuels and in the Volkswagen Community. Mechanically: This car is mechanically sound. The 1.6 liter diesel engine starts right up and runs like a top. It has a 4 speed manual transmission that shifts great and the clutch is in great shape too. The car has 267k original miles. We had the car completely looked over by a VW specialist in Greensboro, NC and found the following and had the issues addressed: Valve cover gasket leaking Front brake pads worn Throttle cable loose Accessory belts cracked/cracking All of these items were replaced along with a current NC inspection and a fresh oil change. The shop also told us that the head had been rebuilt at some point not that long ago. The AC in this car is ice cold and the heat works well. This car NEEDS NOTHING to jump in it and drive it everyday.NO oil leaks, no issues at all. Exterior: The body is in good shape but over 30 years it has acquired some dings. There are two noticeable dings, one on the driver’s side rear door(about the size of a quarter) and one on the roof right above the back hatch which are both pictured. There is one very minor rust spot starting to form about the driver’s side rear tire which could easily be repaired. The paint is in good shape with normal chips and minor fading. Interior: The interior is in good shape as well. Carpets are not torn or anything but could use a shampooing if you would like it to be perfect. Driver’s seat shows minor wear but the rest are in good condition. All door panels are in great shape, all windows work, etc. Original factory radio works great, all gauges work including the Quartz clock. The windshield wipers only work on high. Original owners manual with service booklet is there too along with two original VW keys(only one of the keys is pictured but we have another just like it). Wheels/tires: The car has the original 13” VW steel wheels with original hub caps. Two of the clips are loose on one of the hub caps so it rattles a little bit, but not a big deal. The clips can be picked up in many places on the internet. The car also has a new set of Kumho tires. When I typed in the VIN to list the vehicle it came back as not having a clear title. I have the clear, original title that was issued in 1981 from the original owner. I ran an Autocheck report and found that it was deemed a total loss on 4/13/05 but did not show any records of the car being wrecked or anything. I am not sure why it is listed as such but due to the circumstances we will sell the car with a clear title with a “salvage history” and AS-IS, WHERE-IS. Again, this car is in great shape for its age and would be a great candidate for someone to modify, run biodiesel in, or just drive it as it is and save on fuel. This thing gets close to 50mpg.
