Thanks. Mike (951)323-9396The "Description" and the "Issues to be addressed" sections in this ad cover the most important parts of the car that you'll want to know. The remaining sections go into more detail that will further inform you of the condition of the car. Description:Up for auction is a 1966 Porsche 912 that comes with a clean CA title and a ton of work already performed. The car is equipped with a recent paint job (2005), new external turn signal and tail light lenses, a full engine and body decal set, new body & glass seals, new engine compartment and front trunk shocks, a fresh rebuilt big bore engine, new Weber carbs, a new 215mm Sachs clutch kit, a recently rebuilt 5 speed transmission (~5k miles), new brake pads, recently replaced rotors, new lower ball joints, new stainless steel brake lines, re-painted and re-undercoated undercarriage, new tires (0 miles), new carpet (cabin & trunk), new aluminum door thresholds, re-dyed seats and interior panels, and a restored dash pad and dash. The original rare Blaupunkt radio, an under dash Pioneer CD player, custom front bra, and custom fit car cover are also included. History: I'm the 3rd owner of this classic and I bought it from my friend's father who had his "Baby" for over 30 years. He was in the process of restoring the car but became ill in 2008 and therefore couldn't finish it. I bought the car with the intent of keeping it for myself, but after some thought I decided that I'd rather use the money I spent to landscape my ugly yard instead. So up for sale it goes! Undercarriage/Rust issues: The undercarriage, front trunk, all 4 wheel wells, floor boards, rear seat bucket area, lower windshield area, lower door edges, rear glass area, front and rear drain pipe areas, battery tray, and engine bay were all inspected and no rust damage or body rot was found, which is extremely surprising (see extra pics covering all aspects of the undercarriage). A few small spots of surface rust were found around the base of the steering column support, but they were inspected, scraped, and prodded. None of the spots were anything more than superficial surface rust so they were just cleaned and resprayed. Paint/body: The car was re-painted in 2005 due to a minor accident in which a neighbor backed into the driver side door and fender while leaving his driveway. During the repaint most of the trim, lenses, and glass were removed but not all. Since the car was only driven casually for about a year after the repaint the finish was able to remain undamaged and still looks good, shines nicely, and when viewed straight on looks smooth and beautiful. Even though the paint looks great straight on it isn't a "Porsche" quality paint job due to 3 things. First the body shop that did the work was a Maaco type shop and therefore didn't re-align the fenders and doors properly prior to the repaint. Therefore everything lines up pretty good but the rear of the doors sit just a hair higher than the body. Second, the body shop did not block sand the car prior to painting. Third, the body shop didn't remove the original paint prior to spraying it and therefore some hidden under hood and under bumper edges show signs of poor feathering techniques. I figure the pictures will accurately represent the quality of the paint, but I just wanted to add this prior note so you don't assume that this is a $5K-$10k high end crystal smooth perfect paint job. All of these issues can be fixed later in the future when the car is painted at a proper high end shop. Body seals: During the repaint the windshield seal, rear glass seal, front trunk surround seal, and door jam seals were replaced. The remaining seals that weren't replaced, (e.g. for the rear pop out windows, vent windows, and outer window scrapers) were changed by me last month, so now just about every seal on this car is brand new or newly replaced. The engine lid seal is still very soft but it does have some cracks around the left edge and the front lip trunk seal appears to be a little on the old side so you may want to change those in the future. Glass: All the glass in the car is crack free. It also appears that the windshield may have been replaced during the repaint but unfortunately it has 1 small rock chip in the center. The driver's door glass has a few sandpaper scratches toward the bottom that will have to be buffed out. Trim components: The exterior chrome and trim around the side door glass and pop out windows are in good shape with only minor signs of pitting and wear. The remaining chrome and aluminum moldings and bumperettes on the car are still in good shape but do show some signs of pitting consistent with a 44 year old west coast classic. Re-chroming of almost all the components would be necessary for concurs condition. The glass H4 headlight covers are in nice shape with no discoloration or cracks but they do have some minor sand pitting marks. The headlight bezels are in good shape but the left trim ring does have some sandpaper scratches on it. The front turn signal and tail light lenses are perfect and are 100% new. Interior: A 100% new Charcoal colored Perlon carpet kit was just installed in both the cabin and the trunk prior to me receiving the car. A brand new 4 piece aluminum threshold set and rubber e-brake boot were also installed with the new carpet. The dash pad was removed and recovered with new padding and vinyl. The rear deck vinyl was also replaced. The remaining panels and seats were also removed, cleaned, and redyed black. The steel dash itself was resprayed in a factory black enamel and comes equipped with the factory Blaupunkt radio (currently not hooked up). New steering column decals and dash decals were also installed. An under dash Pioneer CD player has been installed along with a set of removable 3 way 6"x9" speakers boxes. The headliner was not replaced and is still in fairly good shape but it does show some minor fading around the edges along with 2 small tear marks by the top of the rear window. The dome light lenses have some cracks in them and the right one doesn't work due to the cracked lens. Also the door panels have a few small nicks in them (about an 1/8" to 1/4", see pics) and there are some small tear marks in the rear seat side panels. Those are completely hidden by the upper portions of the rear seats and are only visible when the rear seat backs are tilted down. Engine/Transmission:A complete engine rebuild was performed less than 300 miles ago at Randy's Porsche & Automotive in Mammoth Lakes CA. The rebuild included all new seals, new bearings, new camshaft and lifters, new 86mm big bore jugs and pistons (makes the engine a 1722cc), rebuilt heads, reconditioned rods, new Italian made 40mm IDF Webers, new Crane XR700 optical ignition system, Crane PS20 Coil, and new Sachs clutch kit. Shortly after the rebuild the engine tin was also sandblasted, primed, and repainted. A fresh tune-up was just performed which consisted of new plugs, cap, rotor, and wires. Since this engine is still new assume that it will need another 500-1000 miles or so put on it to fully break it in. After that a final carb synchronizing and jetting should be done to fully tune it in. The transmission was removed by the same shop a few years prior and was disassembled, inspected for wear, and resealed. It currently has about 5k miles on it. Tires/Brakes:New 195/65/15 tires were just installed and balanced on a set of freshly polished 15"x6" Fuch replica aluminum wheels. The tires currently have (0 miles) on them. A new master cylinder was also installed, along with a set of SS brake lines and rotors shortly before the car was parked (4 years ago). New brake pads were just installed and currently have 0 miles on them. Note to Californian Buyers ONLY: The car was last registered in 2008 and unfortunately was not non-oped. Therefore there will be about $300 in back DMV fees owed on the car if it is registered in California. Since I am aware of the back fees I will deduct the cost of the back registration fees from the winning bid of the car if the car will be re-registered in California. If the car is sold to an out of state or overseas buyer, or if it will not be registered in California then this deduction will NOT be made from the winning bid. Payment/Shipping: A $1000 Paypal deposit is required within 12 hours of auction close. If an issue arises please contact me. If I have not received the deposit within the 12 hour period I will offer the car to the next highest bidder. Payment in full is due within 7 days of auction close. Local cash sales may be offered a 3% cash discount. The balance is due via Bank Transfer or Cashiers check. 30 days Free storage will be offered to aid in shipment preparation, after that a storage fee of $25 a week will be assessed. Issues to be addressed: 1) I've noticed a few drops of oil where I've been parking the car. It appears that it may be the rear main seal. (Since the motor is new the seal may still seat in and the leak may stop, or it may get worse, only time will tell. At worst you're looking at a 3-4 hour job and a $10 part once you get the car up in the air). 2) The left rear quarter panel has a few small cracks in the paint toward the tail light. (The cracks are about 1/4" in length and are hard to see due to the metallic paint. If you're concerned about them I can check with my local paint shop and see if they can re-spray the rear quarter panel which will remedy this problem. I'll have to check what they would charge but most likely it will be ~$200-$300 if I pull the lens and trim for them). 3) The horns are currently hooked up but do not work. (I'm going to try and look at them this week. If I get them working I'll make a note of it). 4) The windshield washer nozzles do not spray. (It appears that one of the hoses may just need to be hooked up). 5) The vinyl on the top flat dashboard piece has shrunk a little around the edges of the dash vents so you can see a little of the white foam padding underneath. (Fixing it will be very easy and most likely you can just re-stretch and re-glue the same vinyl piece since the material is still soft & new). 6) Both the Left & Right inner door opener buttons are a little hard to push, and this makes it difficult to open the doors from the inside. (Everything is there and undamaged so some WD-40 on the inner latch mechanism and linkage should take care of the problem). 7) The hazard switch doesn't seem to work. (I'm going to try and take a look at it this week. If I get it working I'll make a note of it). 8) The drip tray for the engine lid is not installed but it is included and is undamaged. (The lid wasn't reinstalled because a few studs on the rear engine grill have to be replaced or repaired).9) The rear license plate lights are there but are not hooked up. (I'm going to try and take a look at them this week. If I get them working I'll make a note of it). On Jul-09-10 at 11:57:05 PDT, seller added the following information: If for some reason you can't see all of the photos on your computer just click on any of the "Photobucket" words which should be in blue. This will take you to my 912 album which will contain all 200+ pics. Thanks On Jul-10-10 at 16:32:04 PDT, seller added the following information: I took a look at the horns and license plate lights today and I was able to get the license plate lights hooked up, so therefore that is no longer an issue. I also tested the horns and they do work, but it appears that the horn button contacts may either be dirty or may be a little worn. I also sprayed some WD-40 into the door latch mechanisms and they seem to be working a lot easier now. They'll probably continue to ease up as you use them so I don't think that will be an issue any more. I'll update this ad if I get to anything else. Thanks for the interest, Mike On Jul-10-10 at 19:01:18 PDT, seller added the following information: The hazard lights have also been repaired. The problem was just a bad connection at the fuse.
