1998 dodge 3500 Trailer & RV Sales, Parts Service & Rentals 431 N Main Street Seneca, IL 61360 815/357-3292 Paul@NeedaTrailer.com NO RESERVE 1998, 12 valve, 4 door, 5 speed, 2WD, 3500 Dodge Ram Diesel! I think the title pretty well sums it up. This is the rare, early 1998 Dodge Ram 2WD extended cab truck, with the newer 98 to 02, 4 door body and interior, but with the rock solid, bullet proof 12 valve Cummins Diesel engine. I bought this truck at the beginning of this year, as my "personal" truck. (if you look in the picture, you can see I have a few!) It is a GREAT truck, and with the rear doors that open, I hoped my son would be able to ride in the back seat on the long trips we sometimes take. Unfortunately, he is 6'2" tall, and 230 pounds, so he "can" ride in the back, but it is a squeeze on the long trips....(he complained!) So, a couple of weeks ago, I made the "jump" to a 2004 Common Rail Cummins/Dodge, just because I needed the Four Full doors. (look at ebay item 280511767705 to see the new truck I bought!!!) . I really hate to sell this one, but I cant keep them all! UpGrades: This one has the "Banks kit" which, from what I can tell, is basically a larger SS exhaust, New Turbo, and Dual Ram intake. Additionally it has the Banks Gauge Package with Boost and Pyrometer exhaust temp gauges. The engine does make great power, but not really from a lot of extra fuel. The Banks kit seems to just allow it to Breathe Better! (we are seeing 20 MPG out of this truck, and almost zero black smoke!) It may be a little louder than stock, but not much.... really hard to tell, it is not very loud at all! I think the boost comes in a little slower than stock, but it really comes on strong after 1500 rpm! (that is just my "seat of the pants" meter) The outside mirrors are electric "extend able" mirrors from POWER VISION, Pendelton Oregon. These are power mirrors that extend and contract, so when you are towing wide trailers, with the push of a button, they extend out. Please note, The drivers side is getting a little "sticky" when you extend it, but probably just needs a drop of WD-40 to smooth it out. It still works, just kind of "jerky". It has the Bull Dog Fold Over Ball Gooseneck hitch, which I prefer over the BW turn over ball. You don't have to reach down in the fender to lay the ball down, just pick up the plate in the bed, lay the ball on it's side, and close the plate! No fumbling for the ball, or trying to pull a release lever inside a dirty fender! We put LED lights on all the marker lights on the bed. the are are Clear lens lights, that look good on the black truck! The inside of the bed has a full Rhino Liner, spray in bed liner. (stained and dirty, but still in great shape!) It has the Tekonsha Prodigy Brake controller, which, if you tow much, you know it is the "Cadillac " of brake controllers! It is new. The Leather Seats were in decent shape, but I planned to spend a lot of time in this truck, so in order to protect them I purchased $175 Original Manufactures Velor Seat Covers from GT Covers. These are some of the best covers available, they are top quality, "Perfect Fit" Seat covers that are hard to tell from Factory seats! If you don't like them, take them off, and go back to the leather underneath. It has a High Power Alpine In Dash AM FM CD Player, with a tilt face, and lots of features (I am just too old to figure most of them out!) and has really good, loud sound! Recent Repairs/Improvements: It has a brand new 5 speed transmission installed, with a warranty, with all the "upgrades" (5th gear, etc) and is full of Mopar, Full synthetic oil. We also put a new clutch in it at that time, and had the drive shafts professionally balanced. We have Receipts to show this work was done, it should be good for 150,000 miles! Right after I got it, we went through and tried to fix anything that "might" be a problem. The starter was a little "slow" so we replaced the starter with a NAPA life time Starter. The front end was checked out, so new ball joints were installed. The fuel shut off solenoid was a little "sticky" (truck kept running once) so we replaced the Solenoid with a new Cummins unit. We also upgraded all the marker lights on the Bed to Clear Lens LED lights. Really, that is about it, the truck is really ready for a cross country trip (so long as you don't pack a 16 year teenage old Linebacker in the back seat!) The Good: This thing runs strong! The big turbo puts up around 25-30 psi of boost. It has strong pulling 4.10 gears and a great shifting new 5 speed. The Air Conditioning is ice cold, the front end is tight, and it has Uniroyal 215-85-16 Radial tires in great shape! The truck has NEVER seen any salt road in the winter! The Frame and Body are still painted black, ZERO rust anywhere! Again, even though the truck is just a few miles outside of Chicago, IL, it was brought into Illinois from South Carolina just a few months ago! Clean and Rust free! The engine starts strong, and runs great, no blow by! Ready for many miles to go! The inside is in good condition, wood grain dash (top of dash has typical cracks) , just a little dusty. It shows wear, but that is to be expected. the Truck just passed Illinois DOT inspection (required every 6 months for one ton trucks in Illinois) and is good until October. Other than the obvious, the paint on this truck is in good shape. The clear coat is not peeling and is still glossy. It does have the normal wear, scuffs and scratches, so it is not new, but cleans up pretty nice! The Bad: About 3 weeks ago, I was backing up a trailer, at 4am in the morning, and was looking behind.... I cut the wheel, and turned the front of the truck right into the front of a goose neck trailer that was parked in the driveway. This resulted is a small dent in the passenger fender. REALLY ticked me off, I wish I could blame some one else, but ..... I Took it to the local body shop, they said $400 to repair. I figure it might be a good place for sticker... The front fog lights down in the bumper don't work. I am pretty sure they are getting power by the switch in the dash, but I know the bulbs are out, and one needs the mount fixed, it is loose in the bumper. The Plastic trim on the front bumper is loose on the Drivers Side. I am pretty sure the little plastic clips that hold it on are loose or missing. You can see it in the pictures. I am sure with a little time and some well placed screws, it could be fixed, but it does not hurt the truck. The top of the dash has the typical cracks many trucks from the South will have. A good dash pad would cover them. That's really all I know that is wrong with the truck, but keep in mind, it has all the small scuffs, dings and scratches a truck this old should have. It is a work truck, and we still use it some, so it might be a little dirty or dusty, and the miles may be a few more at the time of sale. I do not plan on any long trips, but it is getting used locally around here some.
