2001 Mercedes Benz SLK with only 20002 original miles on it. ONE OWNER – it was my husband’s idea to buy this and not drive it much and then pass it down to our son. Problem is: son [now 16] prefers a car with a stick shift. The mechanical condition of this car is very good; but it needs TLC and finish work. EQUIPMENT: 4 CLYLINDER SUPER CHARGED ENGINE – FAST BUT GREAT GAS MILEAGE; A/C, ELECRTRIC WINDOWS, ELECTRIC CONVERIABLE TOP, 6-CD DISC CHARGER WITH AM/FM RADIO, CRUZ CONTROL, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, DISC BRAKES, POWER LOCKS W/ REMOTE, AND ALL THE MODERN STUFF THAT CAME ON SLKs IN 2001. IN OTHER WORDS IT IS LOADED. INTERIOR: BLACK LEATHER LOOKING [NOT SURE IF REAL OR WHAT] – NOT DAMAGED EXCEPT [1] MY HUSBAND TOOK OUT WHITE HEADLINER AS HE DID NOT LIKE IT [2] BLACK COATING ON INTERIOR IS PEALING OFF [3] ASH TRAY WILL NOT STAY CLOSED [which is strange as none has ever smoked in the car and we never use ash trays] -- My feeling is the interior can be cleaned up to look like new with a bit of work and imagination. EXTERIOR: RED PAINT HAS BAKED IN THE FLORIDA SUN. ACCORDING TO A DEALER THIS IS COMMON ON RED CARS THAT THE ‘CLEAR COAT’ CAN BAKE OFF AND PEAL. THE BODY IS FINE; NO WRECKS OR SUCH. My understanding is to make this look like new; either the car should be repainted or the clear coat stripped and the car re-clean coated. But the truth is the body looks great and is basically perfect but the paint looks like hell. MECHANICAL: EVERYTHING SEEMS TO WORK GREAT AND THE CAR DRIVES LIKE NEW EXCPET THERE IS A SWITCH IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT LOCKS THE GEAR SHIFT IN PARK THAT SOMETIMES STAYS LOCKED AND DRIVER JUST HAS TO FLIP THE SWITCH BY POKING A SCREW DRIVER OR ROD OR PENCIL DOWN THIS LITTLE FLAP RIGHT NEXT TO THE GEAR SHIFTER {this is easy, can be done in 2 seconds while sitting in driver’s seat and it does not always happen – just from time to time} BELOW IS A MOVIE OF THE TOP AS IT OPERATES http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKa4u2gQi2o This car does need a bit of love; but once the few small things are done there is probably few 2001 SLKs that would be more sound – it has really only been driven carefully and very little. Main issue is that it has sat in our driveway in the sun for years with little use. Buyer can pick it up in Jacksonville Florida and it could easy be driven to anywhere in the USA. Or of course, it can be picked up and transported by a car transport company. I can take paypal or a certified check for the car. We do have a clear title on the car.
