Vehicle Detail
This is a 1965 VW Bug European version with locking steering column, fully documented from Germany. It is a U.S. version bug that is noted in the original sales receipt, yes from Germany. The car was purchased at Ernst Hinrichs Volkswagen and the options list includes 1. Pop out windows; 2. White wall tires; 3. US version equipment; and 4. Leatherette interior. The car was originally sold on May 15, 1965. The motor numbers match the sales receipt. The car is original Bahama Blue and has 51,877 original miles with documents matching back to Germany. Check out the video posted. The car is also equipped with a Blaupunkt auto radio AM/FM/SW (short wave) radio with the original owner’s manual, owner’s book, and warranty card that was never sent in, along with all mounting information that is provided by the dealer. RARE! The car is near dentless and has original pain. No accidents. There are a couple of small dents in the fenders. No pushed in quarter panels. Original fenders. This car has never been taken apart, it is completely original. There is no body filler or Bondo on the car. The fender beading, window rubber and all body rubber, hood seal, deck seal, have never been removed. Bumpers have never been off the car. There are two switches under the dash. One turns the radio on and the other is a push button to start the car. I do not know why they did this, but it could have been a theft deterent. Radio does go on but crackles. It may just need a speaker. I did not want to cut any wires or explore further and ruin the car. The car runs, drives and shifts great. For safety reasons, brake lines were replaced and wheel cylinders. Brakes are great on this car now! The car left Germany in 1967 and I have all the documentation and freight bills to show for it. I even have some of the stamped envelopes showing it had 34,811 miles on it when it was shipped. The car is still a 6 Volt and runs great. There is rust under the battery tray area and a small amount on the other side, and could be more in some area, I am not a specialist. When was the last time you saw a paper trail for a car of this age like this? The original purchaser/owner was in the US military in Germany and was issued a USA military license plate. I have the license plate which is also documented on all the paperwork. I also have the original envelope the license plate came in. There are too many documents to list, majority of them being in German which I could not translate. This is a very rare museum quality car in regards to the original manufacture, purchase and history of the car. This was during the cold war in which VW’s were in high demand and hard to come by. This car is for a true collector. Possible once in a lifetime. Please feel free to email any questions. You are welcome to inspect the car in person. It is located in Yorba Linda, California 92886. Any VW enthusiast that sees anything different then what I have listed, please let me know so that I can correct the information since I am not an expert on this car. CAR HIGHLIGHTSThe engine numbers match the title numbers. This is a true original matching number car with documentation to back it up.Fully documented German car turns out to be a lot more valuable than just a regular car. This is museum quality history that you are starting with. Original German plate with the envelope sleeve it came in.Both sets of original keys. All transfer papers from Germany to U.S.A.Car runs and drives great!Never been in an accident.Never been disassembled.Minimal amount of dents on body.No body panels need to be replaced.Original AM/FM/SW (short wave radio) Blaupunkt radio with manual and warranty card that was never sent in.Original glass - even front windshield says made in West Germany on driver's side. All lights, horn and wipers are in working condition.Has clear California title and current registration through April 2018.Car NegativesFloor pan underneath battery on passenger side will need attention, driver's side underneath the back seat is starting to rust through. Both areas may be 12" x 12" and need to be replaced.Interior dome light does not workHas a small oil leak from push rod tube. This just started a couple of weeks ago, less than a size of a dime.Car needs to be restored. The major downfall is the two spots in the pan. Check our feedback for honesty and integrity.
