Vehicle Detail

1966 econoline super van in original, unrestored condition. It has a factory 240/6 cylinder, factory 3 speed fully synchronized manual trans and factory 3.00 rear gears. It starts easy, runs good, doesn't overheat and has good oil pressure. It drives straight down the road with only a very small amount of play in the steering wheel. It has a vacuum gauge mounted on the doghouse and it usually shows about 17 inches of vacuum at idle when warmed up. All of the gauges work. All of the lights work. The electrical system is stock and does not appear to have been tampered with. The only things that don't work are the horn, windshield washer pump and the original am radio. It has a freshly rebuilt motorcraft/autolite 1100 manual choke carb, new fuel pump, dual fan belts. The Clutch, rebuilt steering box and a full brake rebuild have about 20k miles on them. Matched set of 205/70/r14 also have about 20k miles too. It has a custom second generation Econoline dry element air cleaner which is a much nicer setup over the stock oil bath unit and is much quieter than the aftermarket alternatives. KNOWN ISSUES: It does have some minor oil leaks and it does consume a bit of oil too. Realistically, the engine is probably at 1/2 life or less. It burns about a quart of oil every 800 miles and it has been doing that for the last 20k miles I've owned it. I check and add oil as needed every other fuel up and it has never gotten away from me. It also has a heat soak / warm start problem. I'm not sure what it is. Could be weak points or the fuel boiling and flooding the carb. If you pull the engine lid up (as to let the heat out) when you park it seems to remedy the problem. If you don't put the lid up it can take about 8-10 seconds of cranking for it to start. The trans also leaks out of the tailshaft seal. I would check it every time I changed the oil and have only had to add very small amounts of oil on only a few occasions. The shifter could use an rebuild. It works fine as-is but the crossover from 1st to 2nd is bit sloppy. When shifting from 1st to 2nd you must make sure to allow the 1st/reverse shift arm to return to the neutral position before you begin to move the 2nd/3rd arm from neutral to 2nd otherwise it won't go into gear. Sound complicated? It's not.... basically, you must shift it like it is an "H" and not a "Z" because a rapid diagonal motion from 1st to 2nd will cause it to bind. I have driven it like this for 20k miles. After I became use to driving it like that the priority of repairing it became less important. The brakes work ok, but after it sits for a while (weeks to months) the brakes will pull a little bit to the right until it gets driven a few miles. If you drive it every day they seem to work normally. Also, if you belligerently overfill the fuel tank gasoline will leak around the sending unit on the tank. The body is fairly straight for an old van. I put an amateur paint job on it when I purchased it in 2011. It's a 20 footer at best but it gets the job done. It's a ton of work to get one these vans laser straight enough for a quality paint job and for me it simply wasn't worth it to me. I didn't do any bodywork other than sanding it before applying the paint, so it does have many small dings, dents and creases that have been painted over. It also has run spot on the cargo door (pictured). I think I looks ok and I haven't had anyone complain about it, but if you are real fussy about your vehicle's paint job than this van might not be for you.The best thing about this van is that it has virtually no rust. There is a very small amount of surface rust in the body seam (pictured). Underbody is very clean with only very minor surface rust that could be removed with sandpaper. This was an inland California van until I brought it to Oregon in 2013. The Dash is stock and uncut. Seats are in usable condition but show some wear with small tears and stains. Original style front rubber floor mat is in nice shape. It does not have seat-belts. All of the door locks work with one key. It has pop-out windows in the back doors. All of the glass is in good condition and the front windshield was replaced in in 2011. The Weather stripping is original and fair at best. Custom West Coast Style side mirrors are very useful and solid in construction. It also has a very solid custom beverage holder / parcel tray that is easily removed if it is not wanted. It also has a stereo/cd player with a usb port mounted in a custom made overhead console that can be easily removed if not wanted as well. Custom mounted tool storage in the back is very useful. If the buyer does not want them I will remove them both upon request. It also has a pair of custom interior crossbars for carrying items longer than 8ft.... surfboards or whatever. I could fit my 12' traditional longboard inside it with a few inches to spare. It also has a custom made 2 piece emergency tow bar mounted underneath the van. I've never had to use it because the van has never left me stranded, but i have tested it and it does work. The tow bar has short tongue so it would NOT be suitable to use for towing at higher speeds or long distances but in a pinch it could be quite helpful. IMO it's easier to find emergency help with a 2" receiver hitch than a car trailer. Overall this has been a great van. With the 3.00 rear gearing it can be driven on the highway at 65-70 mph comfortably and still get 18-20mpg. It currently does not have any obvious problems or obvious impending problems that would prevent it from being driven home. I think with a responsible, mechanically inclined driver this van could be driven to it's new home, but please keep in perspective that it is a 50-year-old original, unrestored vehicle. So, if you're not the brave, adventurous type with a leathery grit capable of physically and mentally contending with a loud, hot, slow, uncertain road trip then please make plans to have the van shipped. I can store the van here at my property for up to a month until you can get the details worked out with your shipper. I am requiring a $100 deposit within 24hrs via paypal and the balance within 3 days unless otherwise agreed to by me. I will only accept cash in hand at pick-up or a cashier's check mailed in advance to for funds to be verified before the van is released. This van is being sold as-is, where-is with NO warranty written, expressed or implied. Buyers are to perform all necessary due diligence prior to placing a bid. It has a clean Oregon title and current Oregon registration. The license plates will not come with the van. I will supply you with a bill of sale and copy of the current registration to show that the van is currently legally registered in the event that you are stopped by law enforcement. I have been an eBay remember for over 10 years and have a 100% feedback rating mostly as a seller. Please bid with confidence. If you have any questions please email me or would like to inspect the van please email me.
