Dollar for dollar this is perhaps one of the most fun cars we have had. It sounds great, drives tight and has tremendous power. This is not a show car. Call this one a 20 footer. The Rangoon Red paint is old with plenty of small chips, scratches and dings. There are bubbles on the quarters, fenders and door corners. There is still some shine and the car really does draw some attention. There is a small crack in the windshield. It is not a distraction but a new owner might want to have it changed out. Costs run around $200-250 for a new window, gasket and installation. The door glass rolls up and down fine, the original regulators have some wear but still function properly.Underneath the floors have the typical rust. The frame rails appear solid as do the rockers.The interior is still quite presentable, appears largely original and shows some age. The door panels, arm rests and bases have been replaced with quality reproductions. You could easily get a few more cruize seasons out of it 'Survivor Style'.Under the hood lives a late model HO GT-40 5.0 Liter. It has been upgraded with an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap, Edelbrock Carburetor, Long Tube Headers and a Performance Camshaft. It fires up easily and has an agressive idle with the perfect lope. It has excellent oil pressure, 80psi warm at cruise. The exhaust note is very crisp thanks to the Flowmaster Mufflers and the Long Tube Headers. An aftermarket electric fan has been added and keeps the car running cool. Please watch the video linked on this site. This car sounds excellent and really does perform well. A simple blip on the throttle in first and second gear induces plenty of tire smoke and smiles. This is a very easy car to drive fast.The car now has a 5-Speed Manual Transmission with a Hydraulic Clutch. Now high speed cruizing is very comfortable thanks to the 5th Gear Overdrive. It really shifts nice and has the perfect ratios for around town as well as the highway. There is some gear whine but the trans works nicely.The factory front disc brakes were removed at some point. We do have a factory set of the Kelsey Hayes 4-piston disc brake calipers that will need to be rebuilt. New 4-piston calipers are available cheaper than rebuilding the factory units though. Please let us know if you would like the used calipers included. A complete kit with new calipers, rotors, hoses, bearings, seals, dust covers, master cylinder and hardware is only $525 through www.discbrakeswap.com.The underhood wiring has been replaced with a new reproduction harness. The fuel gauge works but is a bit sticky some times. The speedo works nicely and an aftermarket oil pressure gauge has been added.While this is obviously not a show car, it still has a cool pedigree thanks to the GT package and the fact that it is The Car that started it all. This would make a great 'No-Guilt Driver' you could enjoy whatever the season or occasion. Nearly anyone with an opposible thumb can maintain this for a fraction of what it cost to drive a computer laden late model car.
