Vehicle Detail

1980 Plymouth Volare Wagon The MoPar F-body of 1976-80, aka Plymouth Volaré and Dodge Aspen, are about the last of affordable MoPar from the seventies. The A and C-bodies are no longer bargains and the B and E-bodies have been ridiculously over-priced for decades. The F-bodies are the last frontier of rear wheel drive seventies MoPars. Even some of these, like the Road Runner and R/T, have reached five figures. Up for auction is a clean and solid 1980 Volaré wagon, 225 slant 6, factory 3 spd manual with O/D (4-spd), clock shows just over 70k miles. I believe the mileage to be actual. This car came from Arizona and had a few small rust holes in the lower quarters. It had some light bodywork in those spots. It needs a paint job, old paint is pretty faded and peeling in spots. There are some dents here and there but nothing serious. The floorpans are clean and solid, exhaust is solid. The bumper chrome is dull and tired (no pits). The aluminum moldings are dull, some have dents and creases, but all are there. The roof rack brackets have pits. Some light pitting in the tail lamp bezels. Both driver side doors were replaced with straight and rust-free replacement doors that are primer gray. The front and rear bumper-to-body filler panels are cracked/damaged, but I have another pair that are nice (need paint). Nothing wrong mechanically. The only thing is if the car sits for more than a day or two you really have to pump the throttle to get gas to the carb. It is a single bbl and I read somewhere that some of these carbs were hard-starting even when new. My guess is it needs a rebuild or replacement. Once started, it runs smooth. The tranny/clutch shifts as it should and the slant 6 runs good, she's a real stump puller. There is a small drip from he tranny case. The service brakes are good, the e-brake is inop. It has the standard 8 1/4" rear end and 3.23 gears. I have installed new Monroe shocks in all four corners (air shocks in rear), a new starter, new washer pump in front (rear is still inop), both battery cables replaced, all new wiper blades, four brand-new Hankook Optimo radial tires and an aftermarket tach. New air filter, but needs an oil change. The dome light is out and the rear defroster is inop. All other lights, gauges, wipers and heater (no a/c) work. The Factory radio is AM/FM and works, but it is NOT a stereo and there is no speaker for it. All the glass is good, the headliner is shot. The front bench seat is a replacement and green (red interior), the old seat was torn up and had broken springs. I have one of those cheap wool seat covers on it. The interior trim panels are faded, but I found a maroon rattle can that matches well if you want to re-shoot them. I laid some gray indoor/outdoor carpet in the back compartment. Ignition key fits the door and tailgate lock cylinders. These F-bodies may have had the cheapest dash pads in all of Chrysler history; this one is halfway decent, but still has some damage. This is a reliable and cheap grocery-getter that is a little bit different. With a paint job, it will look great. Please contact me if you have questions. I will also be posting more pics and info in the next couple days. Clear MN title in hand. Thanks for looking.
