Hello, and welcome. Featured here today is a nice example of a highly desirable and hard-to-find 1979 VOLKSWAGEN RABBIT DIESEL which has been partially restored to be a good dependable daily driver. This is the deluxe version, or L Model, which is a little more luxuriously appointed, and has a few more creature comforts than the base model vehicle, such as better cabin insulation and sound-deadening, 5-speed manual overdrive transmission, etc. This vehicle has undergone a large amount of repairs and upgrades performed by us within the last 1000 miles, which are as follows: Stock 1.5 Liter Diesel engine replaced by a fresh Zero-Mile Rebuilt 1.6 Liter Diesel Engine w/12mm Head Bolts. This includes all NEW Gaskets and Seals, Timing Belt/Tensioner, etc. NEW engine/transmission mounts. NEW Fuel, Air, and Oil Filters. NEW Clutch Assembly. NEW Belts all around. NEW Coolant Hoses. NEW fuel lines. NEW Shift Linkage Bushings. NEW Heavy-Duty Radiator. Radiator Fan Upgraded to Later Model Heavy-Duty Type. NEW Water Pump assembly. NEW Thermostat. NEW Radiator Fan Switch. NEW Battery. NEW Battery cables. NEW Alternator. Rebuilt Steering Rack & Pinion. NEW Front Wheel Bearings. NEW Front Struts. NEW Front Upper Strut Mounts and Bearings. NEW Velour Headliner. NEW Front/Rear Brakes. NEW Rear Wheel Hydraulic Cylinders. Brake Master Cylinder Upgrade to Later Model w/Matching Power Booster. NEW Deluxe Shaded/Tinted Windshield. NEW Windshield Rubber. NEW Bosch Wiper Blades. Stock Steering Wheel replaced by 4-spoke GTI Steering Wheel. NEW pedal rubbers. ALL Fluids drained out, flushed and replaced, including coolant, engine oil, gear oil, windshield washer fluid, hydraulic fluid. Upgraded Later Model Front & Rear Seats w/Matching Door Panels. NEW Bulbs/fuses as needed. ****NOTE**** MOST of the parts used in this partial restoration are genuine VW/Audi items, many of them are OEM, NOS. So, most of you know that genuine parts do NOT come cheap. We use only the best stuff out there, and it all comes at a price! There are no generic Pep Boys/Kragen parts used with the exception of maybe a nut or bolt or something extremely minor. So, if you want something nice, this is it! This is an un-molested, solid So. California vehicle, so has NO rust issues. The body is fairly nice and straight, with the normal tiny little dings and scratches in accordance with its age, the passenger door does have a small ding close to the door handle as can be seen in the pics, the doors shut nice and tight, the dashboard does have the normal cracks, however the carpeting is in very decent shape considering this car is 34 years old! The seats and door panels have been upgraded to later model Deluxe seats, which are in good shape. All lights, instruments and horn work well. The Rabbit rides on Hankook Tires which have a lot of tread left on them. The freshly rebuilt 1.6 liter Diesel engine is smooth and pulls well, and even though it is NOT broken in yet, having less than 1000 miles on it since being installed, allows this car to cruise the Interstate comfortably at 75 MPH in 5th gear all day long without even breaking a sweat! This Rabbit is equipped w/factory AC, however, we cannot attest to its condition since we are NOT offering this vehicle with our normal full level of restoration. It seems to be all there, though. This Rabbit steers straight, the 5-speed manual overdrive transmission shifts smoothly, accelerates and stops well, and goes over bumps nice and quiet. Overall, this is a very nice vehicle, and, with proper maintenance and regular oil changes should last forever. These Rabbit Diesels are famous for longevity, reliability, and practicality, and at barely 130K miles on the chassis this one has a lot of life left in it. The headliner and cab padding and lining was old and sagging, this was all removed and replaced by NEW Beige velour fabric along with NEW padding. Almost everything on this vehicle which in our opinion needed repair or replacement has been discarded and replaced with NEW OEM parts. That includes all the items listed above and maybe a few more items which we might have over-looked. This Rabbit represents excellent value for your money. It looks good and runs great. NOT to mention that Diesel engines get great fuel mileage, at an average between 40-45 MPG, and, if you install a Bio-Diesel or WVO kit, you could be running this nice Rabbit for next to nothing! This RABBIT is ready to drive anywhere. ****NOTE**** FOLKS, IT’S TRUE THERE ARE PLENTY OF SUCH VEHICLES OUT THERE IN THE $200-$1000 RANGE. THIS DOES NOT, HOWEVER, HAPPEN TO BE ONE OF THEM. SO, IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A CHEAP BEATER TO DRIVE TO WORK THEN THIS RABBIT MOST DEFINITELY IS NOT IT. THIS IS WAY TOO NICE AND HAS WAY TOO MANY HOURS OF WORK PUT INTO IT, WHICH WE CAN NEVER BE COMPENSATED FOR, AND TONS OF NEW PARTS INSTALLED AS LISTED ABOVE (YOU DO THE MATH!) SO PLEASE DO NOT INSULT OUR INTELLIGENCE BY TRYING TO LOW-BALL US. SURELY YOU KNOW HOW MUCH ALL THIS STUFF COSTS………. THIS VEHICLE DOES HAVE PLENTY GOING FOR IT, SO PLEASE TRY TO BE REASONABLE AND BID ACCORDINGLY. THE RESERVE IS SET AT A PRETTY REASONABLE AMOUNT, WAY BELOW WHAT WE IN ALL ACTUALITY HAVE INVESTED INTO THIS NICE VEHICLE.
