Vehicle Detail

We are relisting the car due to errors that were found on its AutoCheck and CarFax reports. One of this car's former owners was in an accident while driving a 1998 Jeep they owned concurrently with this M Roadster. Somehow, the Jeep's accident got associated with this BMW's VIN and this ended up on the M Roadsters' CarFax and AutoCheck reports. The former owner probably gave the police the BMW's VIN instead of the Jeep's when reading from their insurance policy on the cars. We have cleared this case of mistaken identity business up with CarFax. The M's report from that company now shows as clean of any accidents. However, AutoCheck has not responded to our contact requests with anything other than an auto-reply as of yet; so we have not been able to straighten things out with them. Apparently, these car information sellers do not allow you to contact them directly unless you have a dealer account. Anyway, I can send you an e-mail attachement of the ammended and clean CarFax on this M. I am helping to auction this little beauty for a friend. Please read over his description and the terms before you bid or ask questions. We won't answer questions about the Reserve or about information that is readily available in the description. I have delivered and assisted in arrangements for shipping vehicles all over the USA. I have also assisted in arranging for shipping vehicles to Canada, Japan, Great Britain, and Australia. There is nothing to it but the money, so don't let that worry you. If you are willing to pay for it, I can make it happen. I will also help you get the best price possible on shipping. The winner can also fly into Birmingham and drive this M Roadster home. Southwest Airlines flies here and the owner or I will be happy to pick you up at the airport. This M Roadster looks even better in person. Unfortunately, I did not have the best of light for these pictures (winter afternoon); but, I can assure you, the paint is beautiful. It just pops when this puppy is seen in the flesh. Same with the interior and top; beautiful leather seats with no cracking and the top looks brand new. I have ridden in this M a couple of times and it runs and drives like new. From the Owner: "You are bidding on a pristine, low mileage, M Roadster in Dakar Yellow. Very few of these cars were produced in this color, so you will likely have the only one in your state, let alone on your block. Over the 2 years I have owned this beautiful little M Roadster, it has been nothing but a joy to smoke Porsche Carreras and other more expensive four wheeled beasts: with the caveat that these contests occur on the gnarliest and twistiest road possible. The average driver will NEVER break this car loose, no matter how hard they push it into a corner. And if you do succeed in drifting the M, this action will be so controllable; you will be grinning all the way home. I feel this series of BMW Roadsters, particularly the M version, are modern classics. The only car I have found to match or exceed the M’s cornering prowess (at least within its price range) is the new Mini Cooper S Roadster and/or Coupe. That is why I am selling this wonderful BMW; I just purchased a 2013 Mini Roadster S. M Roadsters are not cars for the casual driver. DO NOT buy this car for your significant other to look cute in at the mall. The suspension is stiff, the transmission is a short throw stick, and the gas and clutch pedals require a deft touch to operate the M smoothly. This is essentially a bone stock M Roadster with nothing more than a K&N filter and a set of Sumitomo summer performance tires to set it apart from its condition as delivered to the showroom. Even though these Sumitomos are not considered a first tier performance tire; on this car, in dry weather they stick like glue. In the rain, these tires are okay at casual driving speeds and throttle openings; but in the snow (which happens once in a blue moon around here), you should park it. Under the circumstances, this type of car’s handling in rain and snow should not come as any surprise. I am mentioning these things only as words of caution, in case someone wins this car and plans to drive it back to Minnesota next week. After all, the M’s rear tires are a foot wide; and summer compound tires do not like rain and are not meant to be used in snow at all. An important point; these M Roadsters come with BMW’s Lifetime Roadside Assistance and it is transferrable. A new owner just has to call the 800 number posted on a sticker inside the trunk lid, and BMW will send them a new ID card with their name on it. This roadside assistance is only for flats since this model never came with any spare. Also available in the trunk is an air compressor with that pumps air and some sort of sealing fluid into a puntured tire. This flat repair system is powered from the car’s cigar lighter power outlet. The fluid in the system is for one-time use; however, the fluid's reservoir can be recharged by a BMW dealer. This M’s flat repair fluid still has its original seal and has never been opened used. You can also run the air compressor without using the fluid if you want. I did test the compressor, and it works fine. M Roadster’s History: I have been aware of this car since it was born. With the exception of going to the beach for a few vacation trips, it has never left the Birmingham, Alabama area. It is essentially a two-owner car. The second owner let it sit quite a bit in their temperature controlled garage while a divorce took its time to come to completion. After the divorce was finalized, the car ended up on the auction block. There it was acquired by a friend of mine who owns a used car lot. He likes to stock performance cars, but ends up selling more pickups. It is Alabama, after all. When I purchased the M from my friend’s lot, the odometer showed only 12,000 miles! M Roadster’s Condition: The leather seats are pristine; as are the body, top, and the rear window! There are absolutely no scratches or door dings on this vehicle! There are a few very small stone chips on the front of the car, but they are barely noticeable (see pictures). The original factory tires were on the car when I purchased this Roadster. I replaced the M’s original equipment tires at around 15,000 miles, so the current tires now have about 6,000 miles on them. I treated the top with the BMW multistage waterproofing kit and it DOES NOT leak unless you get caught out in hurricane like conditions. Unfortunately, heavy rain, wind, and tornadoes are always a possibility around here. Normally, I would never drive this car in the rain, but we do have pop-up thunderstorms in the Southeast that are difficult to avoid altogether. This M Roadster’s engine compartment has been detailed and it is as clean as the outside of the car. When I bought it, this M had only been for one service at the dealership where it was purchased, Tom Williams BMW of Birmingham. Along with that first dealership service, I replaced ALL the M’s fluids right after I bought the car in December 2010. I changed the engine oil and filter within last 500 miles. Since I performed this service myself, the oil service indicator light is indicating “change oil.” The indicator light can be reset with a simple tool. I don't have it, but they go for about $50 on eBay. Also, express oil change places will usually do this for you if you ask nicely. Engine oil is currently Mobil 1, 5W-30 weight. M Roadster Repairs/Problems: After the 2000 model year, BMW made some minor changes to the Roadsters; some were good, some… not so much. The plastic seat belt guides on all Roadsters manufactured prior to the 2001 models break. My solution is to simply not use the guide. Cosmetically, it looks fine in its original position without the belt inserted. I did purchase the aftermarket repair kit, which consists of a piece of Velcro that holds the guide together so the belt can be used while inserted through it. I feel this looks tacky, so I didn't use it; but the kit is included with the car for the next owner to use if they so choose. The biggest problem with all of the pre 2001 Z cars is the poorly designed seat rails. I replaced the driver side rail with an entirely new assembly. The cost of the parts alone was $1,500! So, make sure this has been done if you buy a Z car other than this one. The passenger seat rail had only a mild clicking (or “rocking” as the service managers say) on acceleration and deceleration if the seat is occupied. I did buy the bushing kit to repair it, but I have not installed it since I am usually in the car by myself and never found this issue to be that big of an irritant. The passenger seat bushing kit also comes with the car. M Roadster’s Amenities/Options: These BMWs were offered with four options, including heated seats. This option is an essential for winter top-down driving in the South. This M has the heated seat option and the seats heat up just fine in both temperature settings. This car also has the optional color matched rear airfoil. This is a BMW accessory, not aftermarket. This car comes with BMW's accessory rubber floor mats. These excellent quality mats were not pictured (so we could show the condition of the carpets), but they are in great condition. This M also has the analog clock instead of the digital one that came in the 2001 and later models. In my opinion, the digital clocks just don’t look right with the rest of the Roadsters’ instrument package. This car does not have keyless entry, nor does it have any warning chime to remind you that your seat belt is unbuckled. The top is electrically operated, works well, and does not intrude on trunk space, which is quite roomy for a convertible. The tonneau cover, used to give the M a finished look when the top is down, is included with the car. I have rarely used it; the cover snaps on, is made of stiff leather, and takes up the entire trunk when not in use. Without that cover along, two people and their luggage can easily fit in a Roadster. I treated the leather seats with BICK leather conditioner. This is the only product I will ever use on anything covered or made with exotic hides. M Roadster Modifications: READ THIS AND NOTE AND SEE PHOTOS as this mod may be too “Elvis” for you. I replaced the top door panel vinyl inserts with full-quill, ostrich synthetic in light grey. I think it is beautiful and adds to the uniqueness of the car. But, I admit, it is a bit RockStar (guilty as charged!). I replaced the original POS Harman/Kardon cassette-tuner with a new Kenwood single CD/tuner and a hidden USB port for an MP3 connection. All speakers, including the sub woofer, were replaced with new, upgraded version of every speaker. No buzz with the bass turned to 10! That's it! The winner of this M Roadster WILL NOT be disappointed! This car is everything I have said and more. If you have to do what I have to a Roadster with only 12,000 miles on it, think of what will be necessary if purchasing a Roadster with 50,000 or more miles on the clock? Wise $$$$ will be well spent here, not on a high-mileage M Roadster that will need all I have done and probably a lot more. And there is no doubt they will need it; that's FOR CERTAIN. This M Roadster is not my first BMW Roadeo!" The current owner is not interested in trades. He is selling this vehicle to finance a new Mini S Roadster.
