Vehicle Detail
I bought this MGC roaster convertible 9 years ago from a barn in upstate NH. I bought it for $1700.00 . I drove it around for 4 years and then brought it to a vintage foreign auto garage and spent over $8,000 having the mechanical aspects of the car restored. This work was completed about 5 years ago now and I put about 2000 miles on the car since the rebuild. The brake system was completely done over with new girling front disc and rear wheel drum brakes with two new vacuum servos! I had an electonic ignition and high output coil installed. The twin horizontal 1 3/4" SU's type HS6 carburators were completely rebuilt. A new gas tank, sender and electronic fuel pump were installed. New telescopic hydraulic dampers (shocks) were installed. I installed new carpet and interior as well as a new vinyl convertible top. The car has the original Rudge type wire spoke wheels (5 including the spare). The driver's side front fender for some reason had a rust hole in it so I ordered a new steel fender from England (British Victoria Ltd.) http://www.victoriabritish.com/index.htm where you can buy replacement parts as needed, and had it installed on the car. I had the paint matched somewhat but intended to repaint the whole car at some point. We drove the car on weekends, in good weather, otherwise it has been garaged. Our longest trip was 800 miles to New Brunswick and we had no mechanical issues at all. We never got to finish prettying the car up and since my wife can't ride in it due to health problems, I'll let the new owner finish it up . The vinyl convertible top never really fit well. I probably should of had one professionally installed. It works ok but I would replace it if I were going to keep the car. There is a small crack in the top of the driver door sheet metal that I never got around to having fixed. There is a little denting in the front bumper and a couple grille bars. The car will really look great with a new paint job. It needs a new radio antenna and little things like that. The expensive mechanical issues have been done but rather than invest any money on cosmetic issues, I will sell the car well below it's value so that someone else can enjoy it. It is a blast to drive and fast, 0-60 in 10 seconds. There were only 1757 1969 MGC roadsters made and only a few hundred were exported to the USA. This is an import model with the left side steering wheel, three windshield wipers and dual serv brake system. ***I've added alot more pictures. Note the little dent in front grill and the passenger door sheet metal crack (just below window). Please notice the nice shape the door thresholds/rockers appear to be in. The doors close and latch smoothly and without difficulty. The trunk and inner rear fenders are very clean. The dashboard leather is free of cracks or damage. The floors are solid steel and I can't find any holes or cracks (It has been inspected in local garages who are very fussy about any holes or floor weaknesses-they won't pass inspection!) So in my opinion a solid car, with great mechanics that now just needs some cosmetic work.***** Much more about this rare care can be found on http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgc.html#BckGrnd The car is solid and mechanically sound. Finish it up and you will have a beauty! Introduced October 1967 – August 1969 The MGC was the first ‘high performance’ version of the MGB as from early in the design stages of the MGB there was an intention to create high performance variants, using a range of Vee engines that did not make it to production. The MGC was very much more than a tuned MGB and in fact was a completely re-engineered car, but retaining many visual connections to the MGB. On the outside the MGC was often mistaken for an MGB as the only visual differences were in the heavily bulged bonnet with a transverse chrome strip that accentuated the bulges, and the standard use of 15” wheels instead of 14” on the MGB. Inside there were few differences between the B and C other than the 140mph speedo and tacho with a yellow and red banding set against lower rpms than the MGB. Under the skin though and the differences became obvious with most changes up front. The engine was a BMC C series 6 cylinder 2912cc development of that used in the Austin Healey 3000 and Austin Westminster, which added considerable weight as well as bulk. This required a new torsion bar front suspension along with uprated braking. The gearbox was also a new stronger all synchromesh unit with optional overdrive, a version of which was adopted for the MGB at the same time.
