About Me 1962 GMC Step Side San Jose, CA 95110 Time in San Jose Vehicle Details Year: 1962 Make:GMC Model: Half Ton Step Side Mileage: 140,000 Transmission: Automatic Engine: 305 Exterior Color: White Interior Color: Gray Title: Clear Description Hello. I'm a 1962 GMC half ton step side pick up truck. At the risk of boring you, let me tell you a little about myself: My early life began in Wisconsin, at the GM assembly plant in Janesville, after which I rode a freight train to California, where I was eventually sent to Mancini Motors in Mountain View. Because I was equipped with an automatic transmission (one of the heavy duty 4 speed Hydromatics), I didn't go to a new home right away, but in July of '62 my original owner saw me, and took me away. I was beautiful back then, with shining white paint and not a squeak, a rattle, or scratch anywhere. Since then, I've had a full and useful life, a truck's life, serving my original owner from Borello's Ranch in what was rural San Jose (Garden City, as it was known back then) since July of 1962. At first helping him with his chores and responsibilities as one of the area's largest grape growers, then running errands and light hauling as needed. I stayed with him through the early 90's at which time he was no longer able to drive and care for me. Upon his passing in 1995, I was driven by other family members until 1997, at which time I was left outside, alone, and un-used. It was a very low time for me. My current owner found me and rescued me. After cleaning my gas tank and installing a new battery, my 305 GMC V6 came back to life, running just as smooth and powerful as I did when I was parked back in '97. He changed my oil, repaired my brakes, and in general, tuned me up and made me road ready once again. I feel great, although I could use still use a new set of tires. I'm not the first of my kind. Nor am I the last of my kind, or the best preserved example of my kind. Although I'm in running condition, my body is showing its age. I've had my fair share of bumps and bruises over the years working on the ranch, and since being left outside all that time, I've been living with some small areas of rust at the bottom of my doors, and rocker panels. A well meaning, but not particularly skilled man did some repair work to my rusted areas. I'm grateful, because it's kept me going, but I still dream of being restored, to just like I was back in '62. Thanks for stopping by to see me. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
