ABOUT THIS MOTORCYCLE: 1972 Triumph Daytona 500/T100 The Fall riding season in the South is almost here! This bike is ready to ride! This is a great, mostly original, vintage Triumph 500 parallel twin with a little over 14,500 original miles on the clock. It is clean and has been well maintained. It is in good mechanical condition with good looking original paint. The bike is ready for many more miles of enjoyment while delivering over 50 MPG. Features include: · Reproduction older style mufflers (much better looking and sounding than stock) · New reproduction bars · New Dunlop K70 Gold Seal tires · New Plugs · Carbs recently rebuilt · Recent change of all oil (primary, gearbox, and engine) This bike is the twin carb model. It is a four speed. It has the strong double-leading shoe front brake. It is kick-start only. The 500 cc unit Triumph motors tend to be very reliable and they don’t shake as much as most of the 650s. These 500s are a lot of fun to ride. As long as you do not want to go much over 60 MPH, for any extended period of time, they are very pleasant. I think this bike would easily pull taller gearing, but that is not a quick change to make on these bikes (you have to pull the clutch basket, etc to get to the front sprocket). The bike is located in Birmingham, Alabama. It can be picked up at Barber’s Vintage Motorcycle Days if that works for the winner. Serious inquiries only. Call Mike, 205-218-7424. THE GOOD! This Daytona runs and looks good. The reproduction mufflers give it a mellow and deep exhaust note; plus they improve performance, look better, and drop some weight off the stockers. The bike starts with a kick or two if “The Drill” is followed. This is an easy bike to ride, with plenty of torque, a light clutch, easy shifting transmission, and strong front brake. Suspension is tight and the bike rides and handles very well for a bike of this vintage. Everything works other than what is noted below. I have never noticed this bike leaking oil, It does seap a bit aound the rocker boxes after a ride, but has no active oil leaks I am aware of. The bike is mostly original and unmolested (see below). I replaced the non-stock high handlebars with stock bend reproductions of the originals. The mufflers are also reproductions of the older style originals. This is all to the good as far as I am concerned. The present owner is thinning his collection and this bike is going! The bike has a current Alabama Registration. We do not Title bikes that are pre-1975 in Alabama. It will come with a current tag receipt and notarized Bill of Sale from the registered owner. Check with your DMV if you are concerned about this. I have a Title from the former owner from up north, Massachusetts I believe. THE BAD! This bike has the turn signals removed, I always thought they were pretty homely anyway. The high beam of the headlight bulb is out, which is cheap and easy to replace. I’ll do it before the end of the auction, if I have time to get around to it. Horn sounds pretty sick (not the modern definition). There are some minor paint defects here and there as one might expect on a 38 year old motorcycle. The rear fuel tank mounting tab is broken off. It is still there and pretty much unnecessary as there are two studs and nuts on the front of the tank holding it on. This is all I know that is wrong with the bike. Call Mike between 9 AM and 9 PM CST, any day of the week, with questions or for more detailed pictures and info: 205-218-7424. you can also contact me via eBay’s e-mail system, I will need your regular e-mail address to send Hi Res photos.
