2000 BMW 740 IL I am the second owner and have had this car since 2003. Up until recently, it has been a very reliable and dependable car. There are 168k miles on the odometer, most of which are highway miles. I had one fender bender that required the replacement of the passenger front fender. The passenger fog lamp was also replaced at one time due to road debris. The passenger headlight spray tip is still missing. This is a very comfortable car and is smooth going down the road. Because of some recent mechanical issues with this car, I have purchased another vehicle. See the details below. This could be an excellent buy for someone who has the ability to work on the problems or can put up with them. I am starting at a very low price. This auction is for pick-up in Fullerton, CA only. General Details: Tires are estimated to have about 5k miles left Brakes are estimated to have about 25% left, based on when they were done last Interior is in good condition. GPS works and can be used, but is outdated technology. Some of the dashboard pixels indicating mileage, temperature and other conditions etc are out, but this is almost always the case with these cars. Registration is due in October and smog certification is required. Mechanical Issues: Drivers seat - Power control does not work along with steering wheel adjust. The switch is bad and needs replacing. It was tie wrapped and worked for awhile, but it is not working again. I believe it blows the fuse when it does fail, but I have been told the problem is with the switch. Air Bag Light is on - My mechanic could not reset and there is no error indicated in the computer. It has been on for over a year. Engine light is on - My mechanic indicated this is from some type of air system (smog??). It has been reset twice and comes back on within a day of driving. I have been driving in this condition for about 8 months. Power Steering - After about 20 minutes of driving, the power steering gets stiff. It is still easily steered as it seems to be only partial (maybe 15-20%) and not like a complete power steering failure. Shutting the engine off and restarting will clear this problem. I believe it will happen again after another 20 minutes, but I only drive about 30 minutes each way to work. This is a recent problem. Transmission Top Gear - I have had the top gear quit (it will drop down and then not shift up again) after driving in higher heat for longer periods of time (45min - 1hr). It will operate normally again after parking and cooling for about 15-30 minutes. I had the transmission serviced and there were no obvious signs of a problem, however I did experience losing the top gear once again since the service. I have not experienced this problem for several weeks since I only drive the 30 minutes at a time. In the past I have gone several hours without a problem, but this was in the cooler night time.
