Vehicle Detail

PLEASE READ ENTIRE AUCTION AND LOOK OVER PICTURES CAREFULLY BEFORE BIDDING...THANK YOU!!! For auction is a 1977 Honda CB750A Hondamatic motorcycle. They only made this bike 3 years and is a rare find, especially in this condition. It comes from a guy who had it in his private lifelong collection and passed away leaving all his bikes to his grandson. Here is a quick run down of what I do know about the bike: This bike is 100% original even down to some of the original stickers that came on the bike. The tank is nearly perfect, with no rust inside minus some on the under side of gas cap...the only flaws I could really find on the tank are 2 pin-sized chips. You can kind of see one in the picture of the right hand side of the tank under the "N" in honda, the other about and inch down and left of the key hole on gas tank. Other then that it is original paint and CHERRY. The side covers are also very nice with the original emblems. The exhaust is amazing, chrome is near perfect. Front and rear fender, and chrome around headlight/forks/seat is great as well with only a minimal sign of pitting. The rear fender does have one dimple in it about the size of a pencil eraser, you can kind of see it on the right side of the original sticker that was on the rear fender. The one header pipe has a little bit of rust, and the tops of some of the headers are a little discolored, but the important part, the mufflers, are in near flawless condition for the year. The tires are Dunlops and are pretty much brand new, the rims are in great condition. The seat is about as nice as they get and is original. The grips are the only thing I don't know are original because there is one in the box along with an extra set of right controls. I am not sure if the speedo works, as you can see in the picture the kid had it apart at some point from the little crease. This bike was given to the collectors grandson after he passed and he did mess with it a little to try and get it running properly, but the clean/clear PA title shows the odometer status as "0" for actual mileage and reads 16,665 miles. If I had to guess it is either not working or not working properly and it was one of the things he tried to fix in the last few months before selling it. You will also notice a different set of carbs on the bike and a picture of the actual ones. What I gathered happened is the bike was drained of fluids to sit in the private collection, and when the grandson got the bike he tried to get it running. He said he put a new battery in it (it looks new and holds good charge), filled the fluids, and once he fired the bike the original carbs leaked until he tapped them with a rubber hammer. Instead of trying to get them synced by someone who knew what they were doing, he bought another set off ebay but they sent carbs from a standard cb750...he put them on anyway (sigh). This also might explain the attempt to get into the speedo, probably the bike sat stored so long the cables may have seized up. The original carbs are there including a super clean air box/filter, and from what I can tell has every piece needed to put them back on and they look in great condition, they just need synced by someone who knows what they are doing. The only other thing negative about the bike I noticed was when you go to put the turn signals on the parking brake alarm goes off. The headlight and horn work fine, so it should be a simple wiring issue. Just looking at this bike and hearing it crank you know the bike will run great, but I did not want to mess with it too much. This bike is borderline museum worthy and I did not want to hurt it by screwing around with it too much. Anyone who knows this bike and is interested will know what to do and will likely want to put it back to mint original since it is already so close. I don't know much about these bikes, it is the first one I have ever even seen up close. I did my best to list all things positive and negative about it. I am more then willing to answer any questions, email pictures, speak to potential buyers on the phone and show the bike to anyone who can make it here. If you have any questions, just email me your name and phone number with a good time to call. Please note: I do require a $250 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of the auctions end, and the rest of the payment is due in cash within 7 days of the auctions end. After 7 days, I reserve the right to re-list the bike and keep your deposit. I do not want this bike sitting around here for weeks on end, so if you think you may need longer then that, or if you possibly are going to want this bike shipped, you MUST message me with a phone number before bidding or I reserve the right not to honor your bid. If you need a little flexibility or want to ship it, I will do my best within reason to work with you but you are responsible to communicate that and make all arrangements for transport. Also note this bike is being sold as-is with no warranty given or implied. It is up to you the buyer to ask any questions about the bike, or come look at it first before determining its value. Please note too: If you have less then 10 all positive feedback you MUST message me first with a phone number before bidding or I reserve the right to cancel your bid!!! It is hard to tell what this bikes real value is so I am putting a modest reserve price based on the very few I have found for sale across the country. Thanks for your interest in my auction and best of luck bidding!!! On May-26-10 at 13:20:53 PDT, seller added the following information: PLEASE NOTE: What I said about the speedo most likely was wrong. According to my father who knows these older bikes, the speedo for these is a sealed unit you can't get to unless you break it and according to him it does not look anyone had tampered with it. From how it looked, I thought it was one of the things the previous owner had done to it, but in looking back at the title which shows 16,665 miles and the bike having 16,950 miles since being transfered only a few months ago, the speedo must not only work, but not have been tampered with. My father thinks it could have been heat/old age since the dial looks to be made of cardboard and it just warped. Thinking back to the dense story the grandson gave me about this bike, this makes more sense as he did say he road it a bunch times with the old carbs on, and he did not make any mention of messing with the speedo. I apologize if this confused anyone, please write me if you have any questions. Thank you. On May-29-10 at 13:18:07 PDT, seller added the following information: PLEASE NOTE: The bike DOES have a kick starter under the seat which I did not mention in the listing. It looks like it has never been used. Thank you.
