Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1972 Datsun 240z. I would describe this as a nice driver quality car and not a show or completely original car. It runs / brakes and shifts good and is very solid mechanically. I drive it on sunny days to work. Other than a few bubbles in the paint I cannot see any rust. It looks as if the battery tray was repaired at one time. The car is originally from California and I have documents that it was there at least until the late '80s. I contacted the original owners daughter and she confirmed the history. Paint: The paint has flaws that I hoped were captured in the pictures, but probably weren't. There is a bubble on the hood, and some cracking on the roof and b pillars. It was originally orange, but the current color is not stock. It seems to change colors depending at what angle you look, so for example the door at certain angles will look slightly different than the 1/4 panel. I think this is called pearlescent. I'm not a fan, as the original orange doesn't do this, but it is what it is. Body: The panels all look really nice, I don't see any dings. The bumpers look brand new. The window and light rubber is soft and looks new. It is missing a small corner trim piece around the front windshield (about 1"). Drivetrain: The engine block number is L24 - 099494. This matches the data plate number on the passenger side shock tower. The head ID number is E88DP. Its has a 5 speed manual transmission I believe is from a later model 280zx. I do not have the original 4 speed transmission. It has 3 hole SU carbs a header and I believe a hotter cam and a magna-flow exhaust. I have a stock-type muffler if you want. I recently replaced the master cylinder and brake booster. I see a few drops of oil on the floor every few weeks. I installed an electric fuel pump to prevent vapor-lock that I was having on hot days and an aluminum radiator. Interior: The dash has a 1/2 pad cover. I don't know what it looks like underneath. All gauges work except the clock. The headliner is in nice condition, along with the plastic rear panels. The door panels are very nice. The seats are ok with a small hole near the latch on the DS. HVAC: I rebuilt the heater system by completely disassembling it and replacing the seals. I had the heater core cleaned and tested and installed a new heater core valve. I upgraded the blower and motor with one from a modern Hyundai. It has the dealer installed AC and a modern compressor (r134). The heater blows very warm. The AC blows cool, but don't expect it to keep up in 90+ degree weather. Note that in Alabama, there is no title for cars older than 1975. I have the title from the previous owner unsigned. You will get that along with a bill of sale. A few of the photos are from when I purchased the car in Florida last year. That is the reason for the multiple license plates in some of the photos. The car is now in Huntsville, AL. and if anyone wishes to see in person they are welcome. Please check my feedback. Here is short video of it running, Thanks. Scott https://youtu.be/p6foo7S_lXM
