pontonponton Store I bought this van new in July 1979. I built the interior and put on the American Racing wheels and running boards that year. In my job I was transferred all over the country and used this van as a camper for most of the year until 86. I pulled a small motorcycle trailer behind it and never used it as a daily driver. It spent winters in a garage and was never driven in the salt. In fact it was never really dirty. In 86 I had it repainted as I was tired of the factory orange peel. The front edge of the hood was showing some rust and I replaced the hood. On the back door there was a spot of rust which was fixed but is back again. From then on it was kept inside and used only for occasional camping and travel. In the mid 90's it was left outside for a year and the clear coat began to peel. It has been in the garage since but the clear coat continues to peel. It goes out once or twice a year and gets about 500 miles use. This van was my baby for many years but it is time for it to go to someone who can use it. This is an easy restoration as far as 70's vans go. It would be ideal for a classic truck. Only 145,000 miles. New tires last year. Always runs well and has never broke down. Has always had state inspection and used a few times a year. It is drivable and ready to go. Very solid body and great floor pans and wheel wells. The 70's Ford trucks were rust buckets but this truck has been babied all it's life. Since it has been mainly in storage the oil has been changed once a year and antifreeze and brake fluid every two years. Transmission and rear end every five years. Starts and runs fine, shifts and drives nice. The interior, other than the front seats is in very good condition and can be used as is. The dash is not cracked. The van was smoked in. There are two Rockford amps with equalizer and a 12" sub woofer installed in the 90's. The stereo works fine but the speakers are dry rotted. The only repairs I can remember, the air pump was replaced and the carb rebuilt. A new radiator and shocks were installed in the 90's. Hoses and plug wires were replaced at that time. I may have changed the starter motor. Most everything is original and working. The aluminum wheels are in very good condition and have never been badly pitted. The rear tires are wide 60 series and the front are the stock 70. Never wrecked or damage. The Bad. Transmission front seal has been leaking for 10 years. I think the wrong fluid was put in it and started the leak. I keep it topped off and never had a problem but it needs repaired. There is an oil leak at the base of the distributor. Rust has started in the bottom of the doors. There are a few spots that have began to show. I would assume there is more under the paint and the door bottoms need to be replaced. There is one spot the size of a quarter showing on the roof at the rear corner and one at the base of the rear window. There are small spots on each end of the rear wheel fenders, but they look solid inside. The clear coat has peeled so the van needs stripped and painted. There is an issue with the auto choke on the carb. Speakers need replaced. Seats are original and need replaced. No air conditioning. That was an expensive option in 79. No electric windows. Some of the rubber around the front windows is deteriorating.
