Vehicle Detail

I will do my best to describe but truck is sold as is where is. It is available for viewing in Abilene, Texas. This vehicle has spent all of its life in central Texas and is virtually rust free. Their may be some hidden but I've had the fenders and running boards off and haven't seen anything but very light surface rust. The darkness on the floor board pictures is surface rust. The floor board is very solid as is all of the sheet metal. The paint is thin and it is obvious in the pictures where the primer is showing through in several places. All of the wiring has been replaced as were the switches, etc. It is a rare "Fordomatic" and runs like a like a top. Many new mechanical parts such as fuel tank, wheel cylinders, front breaks, trans cooler lines, ignition coil, water pump, hoses, turn signals, etc. New seat covers. New chrome front bumper. Thousands of dollars were spent on this truck to make it mechanically sound and it is ready to be painted and turned into a show piece or driven as is as an old school truck. The tail gate is the original Ford tail gate that has had a piece of metal tacked across it to make it "cleaner" according to the man who owned it for the 50 or so years before me. The cab is the rare "Deluxe Cab" which was fairly rare in the day from what I understand and is very rare to see with stainless still intact now. The air conditioner obviously is an add on and the man I bought it from told me his dad added it in 1957. Yes, it works. The radio does not work. I believe this is the original 239 Y8 engine and automatic transmission that came in the truck and both have been tuned to operate smoothly. For its age this is one of the most original, heavily optioned, rust free trucks you will find. The steering wheel is a new one I purchased from Mac's because the original one was cracked. The man I bought the truck from told me he thought the hood may have been a replacement from another 1954 Ford Truck and was put on in the 1960's when the original hood was dented but according to him and from what I can tell the rest of the sheet metal is original to the truck. I cannot tell if the wood bed is original to the truck but it is very solid and is attached with what looks like the correct fasteners so it may be the original wood. You will notice from the pictures that there is no rear bumper on the truck. There is a bumper that goes with it but the previous owner had it beefed up and the rear lights interfered with the parts he welded on so I didn't put it back on. It looks like the original bumper that has had some parts welded on it so I suppose you could cut those parts off. It goes with the truck and a picture is shown. This nice truck had been stored by the man I bought it from who was the son of the original owner and had not been registered since 1983. This is a rare chance to get one of these trucks that wasn't left parked out in the elements and left to rust. Again, I will answer any questions I can as honestly as I can but the truck is as is where is. There is no reserve. Winning bidder must wire or paypal $1000.00 deposit within 48 hours with the balance wired within 5 days and the truck must be picked up in Abilene within 14 days. The title is clear of lien and is available immediately upon receipt of collected funds. I listed the vehicle as having 100,000 miles but I don't know the actual mileage. The seller that had owned it for over 50 years told me it had about 85,000 miles on it but I have no way documenting it. I would say mileage is "unknown". Thanks for bidding. On Apr-16-14 at 06:37:21 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE-WOW! Thanks for the flood of inquiries regarding this nice truck. The answers to the basic questions I'm hearing are as follows. It runs fine but, as far as driving it "home", I don't think I would unless you live very close. The vehicle is 60 years old and so is the engine, tranny, rear end, and radiator. The truck probably wasn't built to run 75 MPH in 1954 and, as you can see it has 4 mismatched tires. It's up to you but I wouldn't think you would want to try that. That's my opinion. When I say it runs fine, I mean around town. I haven't driven it except in my neighborhood. EXHAUST-When I got the truck it had worn out dual exhausts. They were each rusted at a bend and I removed and discarded them. I didn't replace them because I figured the next owner would have his or her own idea of what exhaust should be on it. FILLER-The only bondo or filler I'm aware of is on the white "grille" area at about the "V8" spot and a little on the hood where there may have been another ornament mounted or something. There may be more that I haven't seen but that's all I'm aware of. As you can see in the pictures there are some very small "dents" but nothing I would think anyone would call major. The paint is obviously not "clear coated" so it does come off a little with each polish and is very thin. INTERIOR-I'm not Ford truck knowledgable but, from what I've researched, I believe the door panels are the correct ones for the Deluxe cab. They are not in great shape as you can see but what you see is what you get. They are basically just cardboard. The driver side kick panel cardboard portion is missing. I believe replacement door panels are available from the parts folks. HISTORY-I believe this truck was purchased by someone in Big Spring, Texas and brought to Abilene, Texas by his son where it has stayed. That is the story the son told me. I have registration from the early 60's indicating it lived in Big Spring at that time which supports his story. Thanks again for your overwhelming interest. On Apr-16-14 at 15:19:13 PDT, seller added the following information: To clarify on the exhaust-The exhaust pipes were rusted at a bend PAST the mufflers so the mufflers are still in place.
