Vehicle Detail
Heartbreaker! This car has won 1st place in nearly every car show it was ever entered into. Totally mechanically original, this machine has been treated like it's holy. I recently was divorced and am forced to liquidate my entire vintage and rare vehicle collection. Most have been ordered to auction, but this one I struggled to hang on to because it is so precious to me. Now however I find that I can no longer afford this luxury and so it's time to say goodbye to my treasure. The silver lining...perhaps you can be the lucky owner of this incredible vehicle and be it's custodian as it moves forward in time. The vehicle is a 1946 Pontiac Torpedo / Streamliner. Basically, this is a 1941. As most history buffs can tell you, the start of WWII was the end of vehicle production in the USA. War effort required the full force of the US labor and factory output to fight fascism on a global scale. When the war ended in 1945 the returning GI's were hungry for cars, homes and women. Since the war effort had been so all-encompassing and the auto companies couldn't predict the end, they dusted off the dies from the "new" 1941 Pontiac and put them back into production as the 1946. The car has incredible art deco lines and a big old monster flathead 8 cylinder. This is long before the days of power steering, automatic transmissions, seat belts, turn signals and passenger side mirrors, let alone the other modern niceties we all take for granted these days. Yet, the car screams with glamour and class. I would love to think that the crowd that always encircles me when I park this baby are paying attention to your's truly...but the truth is, it's the CAR. If you want to own a piece of history that is also an absolute work of art, this is your chance. These cars don't come up for sale often and when they do they are RARELY in this kind of condition. The body off restoration on this vehicle (along with picture book you'll receive) was accomplished about 8 years ago. If you are the successful bidder you must promise to treat "her" with the respect she deserves. Good luck and happy bidding. Only imperfections on this vehicle are a small dent on a fender (fixable by a non-paint dent repair, it's barely visible and about the size of a nickle in diameter) and she could use a little tweaking to run a bit smoother if you're an engine fanatic (I think it runs just fine). Radio does not work, heater does not work, when driving it "cold" brakes will pull a little to the left until you have braked once or twice. Other than that, she is perfect.
