Vehicle Detail
1962 MGA 1600 MK II restoration project. I purchased this car after an ebay buyer failed to buy. It is in non running condition due to a stuck 1600 cc original engine as pictured in the sixth picture. A 1500 cylinder head had been installed and has since been sold. I purchased a used 1800cc MGB engine to replace and update the car. That engine is partially disassembled for rebuilding, the compression was low. The pistons and rods are removed and the cylinders have been very slightly honed and now have a beautiful crosshatch on them. The engine is newer with a 5 main bearing crankshaft. This is a restoration project. The car is not running and needs all systems restored. There is some surface rust and some damage at the bottom of the rocker panels and fenders. Some rusty spots underneath. These cars had wooden floors and they probably need to be replaced or repaired. It is not a creampuff. (added 4/29, in picture 23I have a head gasket set and conversion gasket set for the 1800 motor valued at $52, plus a Haynes repair manual, a restoration manual, a parts manual and a service manual, the last 3 are in like new condition. The books are a $100 value.) Added on 4/30, picture 7 shows damage above the grille on the left side, body putty repair made and coming loose. Pic #8 above the grille on the right side with less body putty then on the left. Pic #9 right front rocker panel. Pic #10 right center rocker panel. Pic #11 right rear rocker panel and dogleg. Dogleg has been repaired and body putty cracked and loose. Pic #12 right front inner rocker panel looking outward. Pic #13 right rear inner rocker panel. Pic #14 right rear inner rocker and dogleg close up showing rusted through area. Pic #15 left front outer rocker panel. Pic #16 left center rocker panel. Pic #17 left rear rocker panel and dogleg, does not seem to be repaired. Pic #18 left rear inner rocker and dogleg rusted through. Pic #19 left front inner rocker panel seems okay. Pic #20 rear view. Pic #21 gas tank. Pic #22 battery boxes intact and sturdy, surface rust. Pic #23 4 manuals and 2 gasket sets. Pic #24 dashboard closeup. OVERSEAS BIDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED, SORRY. The car contains the original transmission plus a MGB overdrive transimission, another update that was planned for the project. You also get a 45DCOE Weber sidedraft carburetor and intake manifold. I also have a set of headers for the car and an extra 1800 cc cylinder head for the car that was purchased to install on the 1600cc engine. The original SU carburetors and intake/exhaust manifolds are included but one carb needs repair. As you can see in the last picture, the car has the minilite style wheels installed with knockoffs since the car had the wire wheel conversion. The tires have great tread and look new but I have no idea how old they are. They are 165SR15 Kelly steel belted radials and do not show any weatherchecking. The current price of the wheels from Moss Motors are $1500. The original top is included which is white and needs replacing because it is hard and stiff and the windows are discolored and cannot be cleaned. The top bows work properly. The framework and plexiglass for the side curtains are in the trunk. The seats are in good condition but the drivers upper section has a 1 and 1/2" tear. The steering wheel is in good condition. The grille looks new, so it may have been replaced. The left door had a crease in it due to a broken door hinge. The hinge was replaced and the door was expertly straightened and primed as you can see in the second picture. The winning bidder agrees to pay $500 non-refundable through paypal at the end of sale, with the balance paid when the car is picked up. The car will not be shipped.
