Vehicle Detail
Some background: As a favor to a friend needing space and financial assistance, I am selling some of his cars. This T-Bird was purchased by him more than 10 years ago from an estate in Alabama. He said that the prior owner was a reasonably wealthy man that liked Thunderbirds and collected as many as he could fit into his barn with the idea of restoring them someday. This car was selected and purchased from the estate with the idea of pulling the needed trim and drive train to use on another car. As it turns out, this red 'Bird came well optioned from the factory and someone may want to restore it. It is believed that it has been sitting indoors for more than 20 years. This car will be sold on a Bill of Sale only WITHOUT a title. Check out my other items! 1955 Ford Thunderbird – VIN P5FH162155 – This car has NO TITLE and a Bill of Sale will be included upon request. Upon receiving this car on my property for inspection and photos, I discovered a locked glove box. The compartment ended up containing the original Tachometer with cable and a Bank Book. The Savings Account Record Book was issued by American National Bank and Trust Co of Rockford IL from 1967 to 1970 to Harry L Vaughn. Find-A-Grave.com shows Mr Harry L Vaughn having died near St Louis in the mid-1970s and that he was a former Deputy Sheriff in IL. (same Harry? …Dirty Harry???) Perhaps this is the link to the RED lights mounted in the front bumper guards of this T-Bird! This roadster was constructed on February 22, 1955 and finished in Torch Red with a Red & White interior. I believe it has the correct, and perhaps the original 272 ci engine. Options when new included the aforementioned tachometer, 3-speed manual transmission, push-button radio, power seat, interior snap-on tonneau cover, finned aluminum valve covers and a folding soft top. The soft-top has since been replaced with a high-quality porthole hardtop. It is estimated that less than 15 percent of the ’55 T-Birds had manual transmissions. Trim Tag 40A R B 22BLX97 The frame and body mounts appear to be very solid and usable. The body and floors show significant areas of rust-though in several spots. Not to mention a severe collision took place in the center rear and the driver’s side has been swiped. Stainless and other bright trim pieces should be usable as a driver, but the bumpers should be replaced. About 90-95% of the trim and pieces are still attached to this car. Other trim parts are included as shown. The ENGINE: The engine cranks over freely, and we will try to get it to fire this week. – indicating that the engine is NOT stuck and should be rebuildable. It does have keys that fit the ignition. The Engine shows a casting code of ECG, The Exhaust is ECH 9430A and the Intake is ECZ. There is plenty to work with here. Perfect for YOUR next project! We highly recommend a personal inspection. We can only take so many photos and you should be 100% comfortable with your purchase. An honest offer may buy it! We may consider a trade for a quality collector car or muscle car. What is the market value of these? Only one similar car has been on ebay recently: Item 270890543594 and 220965030733 WE HAVE LOTS OF PHOTOS- But ebay, in its infinite wisdom, limits everyone to only 24 images. It is good to see a huge upswing in the T-Bird Market. 2012 Barrett-Jackson just sold a 1957 for over $200,000. Not bad.
