*****PLEASE NOTE: I am listing this car with LOW RESERVE. Feel free to call me at (917) 749-4302 cell with questions. Lets make these bids legit please. These auctions cost money and I don't have time to start chasing you. Thank you and good luck. ***** UP FOR AUCTION IS A GORGEOUS LOOKING 1964 MERCEDES BENZ 230 SL CONVERTIBLE (EUROPEAN VERSION) WITH 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND 73,628 KILOMETERS ON THE CLOCK (ACTUAL MILEAGE)! VERY SHARP CRUISER THAT WILL BE A LOT OF FUN FOR COLLECTOR OR ENTHUSIAST. The car comes from sunny California where it has been collector owned and maintained. Previously resided in Mass. as well. Owner was a mechanic and kept the vehicle in top mechanical condition throughout, and you can hop in and drive this car anywhere right now. This is a EUROPEAN model so the speedometer is in Kilometers (for those not very familiar with them, the European models are generall deemed a bit faster and with a hair more horsepower than the US versions, and highly sought after by collectors). At one point in its life, the engine was replaced from a 2.3L mechanically injected inline 6 to the bigger and more powerful 2.8L electronically injected inline 6 cylinder motor, and you can definitely feel it in this car. I've owned my fair share of these in the past and this one is by far the BEST driving one with the best overall driver feel that I've owned. This car also has the RARE JUMP SEAT option for a 3rd passenger in the back if desired. As you can see it also has the UPGRADED alloy wheels replacing the steel ones (I DO HAVE THE ORIGINAL M/B HUBCAPS THAT GO WITH THE CAR). Interior is in GOOD condition with minor general wear here and there. Seats have been redone in the past and look very good with minor wear. Door panels very nice with some wear. Good steering wheel. Dash is overall very presentable with some wear in the wood trim as is common on these older models. Carpet is presentable. Soft top looks to have been replaced sometime in the past as it looks excellent with only a little minor wear by the bottom sides, with good and semi-clear back window. Hardtop is EXCELLENT as well, with good headliner that has minor discoloration in a few spots. Overall a nicely presentable driver quality interior! Under the hood lies a 2.8 Liter electronically injected 6 cylinder (upgraded from the less powerful 2.3 Liter), so technically this is a 280SL. Fires right up and sounds fantastic and idles great. Transmission shifts beautifully and very tight, with good clutch and great throttle response. By far one of the best ones i've driven in my experience, and whoever is going to get this car will certainly have a lot of fun with it. I've driven it mostly around my neighborhood, a couple of times on the highway to make sure all the gears work fine and believe you me, this car was born to cruise the highway. Very steady even at over 100km/hr with great steering feel and very good brakes. I almost don't want to sell it, it's so much fun to drive! The electrical system was gone through, so lights, signals, brake lights all seem to be working fine. Being an old car, it is NOT perfect by any means. Paint shines up NICELY with GOOD luster for a NICE driver (NOT a showcar of course). Some minor imperfections here and there from driving and use (minor chips, couple of small dings, etc.). Underside has some typical rust by the inner rockers, floors, and inner wheel wells as most of these older SLs exhibit, but you can easily patch it or buy replacement panels (looks like the outer rocker panels were replaced so you can't see anything unless you crawl under the car). There are also some rust holes by the front radiator support. Chrome is very good throughout although the rear bumper starting to show a bit of rust at the very edge on the right. Missing: spare, trunk mat. Not working: horn, radio. Window cranks, glovebox and console need to be secured. Tires have some dry rot and should be replaced in the near future. That's about all I was able to notice from my inspection. I am sure there are other tiny details i've forgotten so please keep that in mind, this is NOT a brand new car obviously. OVERALL IT'S AN ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS AND EYE CATCHING CRUISER THAT IS NEARLY A TURN-KEY DRIVER THAT YOU CAN TAKE ANYWHERE. HOP IN AND DRIVE IT WITH THE TOP DOWN AND ENJOY THE WEATHER AND FINISH TINKERING WITH IT AS YOU SEE FIT. VERY NICE EXAMPLE OF STOCK LOOKING, MILDLY UPGRADED 1964 MERCEDES BENZ 230SL (WITH 280sl MOTOR), LOW ORIGINAL KILOMETERS, EUROPEAN HERITAGE AND GREAT DRIVEABILITY THAT YOU CAN OWN AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE!.
