Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a great 1956 Chevy Bel Air 4DHT . It has never been hit. It has been in my family since 1974. This is a very solid California car. It is straight. It has all original sheet metal. The floors, braces and frame are in excellent condition. You won't find many like this around -- unless they've had the floors, etc. replaced. In my experience, most of the '56 4DHT's that have the original floors and braces either: (a) really need new floors and braces; or (b) are fully restored and will cost at least twice as much as this car. This is finally your opportunity to get that solid, straight '56 Chevy at a price you can afford. You can finish it all the way, or keep it as a solid driver. Your choice. Now the details: I inherited this car from my dad in 2006. It was his daily driver (3 miles to town and 3 miles back) for over 30 years. I drove it home (about 150 miles) and into my own dry storage after he passed away, and it hasn’t been started since. The only thing I did was put some stabilizer in the gas tank. It might take a few minutes to get it started, but it definitely runs and drives. That said, it should be trailered home. I don’t know if it is road worthy because it has been sitting for so long. Also, you should probably bring 2-3 guys or plan on using a winch to get it on the trailer. It should start, but I can't guarantee it. The car is now located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Because this car hasn’t been started up in 5 years and because my storage unit is pretty tight (as you can see from the pictures – I have 4 cars in storage), I was unable to get full-on side pictures of the passenger side. However, rest assured it is virtually identical to the driver’s side. No surprises there except for some surface rust in the rocker areas. This car has never been hit to my knowledge. My dad bought it in 1974, so it has been in my family for 37 years. As you can see, it needs interior work and new paint if you want. The paint is OK for a daily driver, but there is some minor rust bubbling in the typical areas like the rockers. While this car needs some minor attention, it is a very good starting point for someone who wants a solid ’56 4dr Hardtop. PLEASE NOTE: I have a ’56 2 door hardtop that I am currently having restored. Because this 4-door (the one for sale here) has been in my family for 37 years, when it sells, I will be removing the steering wheel, cap and horn ring from this 4-door and replacing them with those I bought for the 2 door (see pictures). Rest assured, the replacements are in “as good or better” condition than the one’s you see on the 4DHT. The reason I am doing this is so I can keep my dad’s steering wheel for sentimental reasons. I will NOT negotiate on this point. Over the years, my dad kept it in great mechanical condition, and did significant work in 1995 including installing a professionally rebuilt 350 ci, 4 bolt. For the rebuild, his log notes state: TRW forged pistons, Chromoly rings, 30 over, stock 64 cc heads, 1.92 valves, new stock springs and cam, high volume old pump TRW, 10 over bearings, and ’66 Vette intake manifold. Also done in 1995 was a gen. to alternator conversion, a complete front end rebuild, new front shocks, carb rebuild (Holley 4160 single pump), and a rear shock conversion. The car got a 700R4 transmission in 2002. It still has drums all around. All were rebuilt along with the master cylinder in 2003. That is everything I know about the car. As you can probably tell, I'm no expert on tri-fives, but if there's anything else you want to know, please ask. What about PAYMENT and SHIPPING? $500 deposit must be made within 48 hours through PayPal. Except for the initial $500 deposit, NO PAYPAL ON THE BALANCE. The balance is to be paid within 7 days of the auction close in cash, money order or certified cashier’s check ONLY. The car and title will not be released until the balance is paid in full. I have the clear title in my hand. The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs and arrangements. Please ask questions, and thanks for looking.
